Thanks. A few choices for Customs .......

as far as customs i really do not know what is better, they come in many many shapes, sizes, and prices. you would have to read lots of reviews to come to a conclusion. I remember myself wanting to get noble k10, but i cannot say if they will sound like you want. and it sucks that you cannot audition before buying.

I wish...
I have a question though, is the gold Hugo a full release like the black edition or is it a limited edition for China or something?
Thank you.

Time to update your Location, soundfly - living in The Land of Beautiful Women I can guarantee you that almost every country in the region is convinced that THEIR women are the most beautiful, but I'd have to hand that award to the Japanese. I spend far too much of my time in China / HK simply trying to dodge crowds that I rarely even notice their faces but I do have a preference for Zhuang women. Anyone who can look this happy with a lampshade on their head is my kind of woman.

no we are not planning to sell any gold units other than in some limited Oriental countries where gold is very popular especially in China where it is said to bring good fortune.

sorry about the edits, heavy night, my excuse.

Thanks for the response. I know that there has been Chord products in the past that had gold versions so I was just curious.

A gold version would sell just as well on the western front also me think's?
I am still waiting for a smooth brushed silver finish (HINT!) ; ) Lol (no really it would be nice..)

I have been awakened recently on head-fi  as with the latest UK meet which happened in Cambridge yesterday (thanks to Andy & Mark for making that happen) which was a really good turn out with a lot of gear on show and have to say I tried quite a few headphones yesterday as I am auditioning to get a pair of flagship open backs to go with the Hugo and including another recent event that was held in January at Metropolis Studios I have now heard many headphones and a few different iem's and have to say it just sings with every one I have hooked the Hugo up to which now makes my decision even harder.

To me they all sound different in terms of their own signature like all headphones do by nature but with the Hugo they all equally perform and sound like bliss.  The Grado PS1000's I keep coming back to (third time listen) and something draws me into these as their ability for natural musicality flow rate is a great natural pairing then the HD 800's which is my least liked flagship can from plenty of listens with other gear in the past actually sounded quite good to me for the first time through the Hugo and then a pair of Beyer T1's the Hugo drives them with conviction which gives the T1's that punch and attack these cans like to deliver.

Also heard these with the new Audeze EL8's which I think from my 20 mins with them are going to be a solid performer which are easy to drive through my Sony Walkman with no effort but through the Hugo it just adds more dynamics with a the ability to sound effortless.

Think my most recent highlight with the Hugo has to be the AKG 812's really impressed me and think there is something that is grabbing my attention like the Grado PS1000's or even GS1000's are paired up with the Hugo.

Only headphone which I think the Hugo could not work it's magic on was a pair of Audi Technica newish released mid range model (sorry cannot remember model) which sounds bright by nature anyway and even through the Hugo this still sounded to bright for my ears.

Another old love affair of mine is the Shure iem's and used to have the old SE530's and recently heard the newer 535's and 846's through the Hugo and have to say the mid range signature the Shures are renowned for really excel with the Hugo and am definitely going to get a pair of these now to go with my Hugo even with already owning a pair of JH16's.

I know someone at the Cambridge meet yesterday (AndrewH13) that initially went with the intention of buying a pair of Senn HD800's on the day as a Hi-Fi dealer was doing a meet discount which had been on his to buy list for a while and ended up walking away with a Hugo after listening to mine on the day!

The reason I think he plumed with the Hugo was because he had never heard his iem's & headphones like that before which I think the Hugo scales lower or mid range headphones really well to the point they really are squeezing the full ability of the headphones which in one sense can actually lengthen the life of a headphone ownership imo.

Seven months down the line with the Hugo and have to say I have not got bored with this once and find it very non fatiguing to listen to, this feels like one of those long term buys which is rare on Head-fi (until Hugo 2 is out anyway!). Still does not stop me from wanting the TT also and wish I had spent more time with it yesterday to be able to make a proper comparison with my Hugo but unfortunately from what I heard of the TT was exquisitely tantalizingly exhilarating to listen to with both 16 bit and high res files.

Basically well done Chord for making a device with a real Hi-Fi sound in something so small, that I go to bed with every night - not that this makes the wife jealous now day's!

Wife goes before the Hugo! I'm so hard when shes in another room, hope she never reads this or I'm cleaning cat crap out of the litter tray for a year! lol

Heard Fostex with their own amps only not the Hugo, interesting different approach for a closed back can, need to listen to them again with the Hugo for sure.

Th900 pairs quite well with the hpa8. Frankly I find it difficult to pick between the Hugo and 8 as the V of th900 gets cleaned up by the A8 and the Hugo adds a bass kick and effect acuity and seperation.

I'm surprised the Hugo actually gives it an accentuated bass. did not think it was capable of doing that!

I remember the Th900's been a very spatial sound for a closed back headphone which I think made every thing easy to pick out when listening with the Fostex own gear.  This was a few months back now though.

Sorry let me clear that up. It's not accentuated in the Hugo. The a8 has a deep sub bass and yes it's spatial abilities provide a wide range as well as clear up the mids and highs in an otherwise smooth delivery V challenged can. I love the sound is my only hp at this point. The Hugo has a tighter kicking bass and provides other benefits for the th900. What surprised me with the th900 is the a8 gives the Hugo a run and I find both amps attractive for these reasons with the th900. The Hugo runs away with 846 iem for me and the only time I use my vamp is when it's smaller size and easy strong direct hook up to my phone is useful.

Could you provide a bit more colour in relation to your experience of the Hugo and your IEMs. With all this recent mention on Hiss, I am now getting paranoid about upgrading my TF10s and getting hiss. The TF10s have an impedance of 32 and I hear no hiss.

I note that the JH16s have an impedance of 18. Do you hear any hiss?

How did the Shure 535 & 846 sound? Any hiss ?

I have some old Shure E2c series , which I haven't paired with the Hugo yet. I used to love the Shure sound before I moved to UE SuperFi and then My Triplefi 10s. Time to try them again.

I think it depends on your ears more than anything else. Some people are sensitive to hiss, whilst others will never notice it.
As always, the only way is to listen before you buy.
