Hello and thanks for reading & for any advice.

I'm about to invest in my first 'serious' headphones. I've just sold my Grado SR60s as I didn't find them particularly comfortable and would like to invest a little more.

A bit of background: I was originally toying with some noise cancelling AKG K490s but I just wasn't impressed with the sound. Then I had a listen to the AKG 550, was definitely impressed and realised I had to rethink somewhat.

So, I bought some cheaper portable cans and want a decent pair for listening at home.

I generally listen to older records, funk, soul, jazz, latin and maybe some newer hip hop, jazz etc. I do like a bit of warmth & bass but would like it to be relatively accurate & controllable. My speakers are AE109s, this was an easy decision for me in a listening test.

I've pretty much narrowed it down to the AKG 550 (don't love the styling but liked the sound, maybe a little bright?), BeyerDynamic DT770 pro, and at a push the AKG 701. These are more than I wanted to spend and I'd have preferred closed back for convenience but they look awesome so I could be tempted.

The only ones I've been able to listen to are the 550s and some Sennheiser Momentums which sounded great but I'm trying to stay under £200. Any opinions or words of wisdom appreciated!

I'm about to pick up a pair of the DT770s (Pro, 80-ohm version) once I find a good deal on them.

Once I get them, if your still looking around...I'll post some feedback.

If you get the K550, you're not missing anything. I'm surprised you liked both the K550 and Momentum, two completely different sound signatures.

Consider:
ATH WS99
ES FC300
AKG K545

Hmm - have you heard any other Sennheiser's besides the Momentums? There are several closed-back models that might suit you and not be quite as bright sounding as the AKG. Maybe something like the HD449, HD280 Pro, etc?
