Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion

My personal experience on those two headphones. The HE-400 really excels with electronic music and other bass-heavy music. It is a viable alternative to the HD650 if you are enjoy the HE-400's unique sound signature. The HE-400i are more neutral and more rounded, but lack the excitement factor from the high quality, well-done bass of the HE-400. The HE-400's bass has a visceral quality that is rare in open headphones.

Both the HE-400i and HE-400 are viable replacements or complimentary pair of headphones from the HD650. Depends on your sound sig preferences which one you enjoy the most! :) cheers.

Thank you for confirming. I just asked the retailer to change my order, to the 400's

Im gonna go the other way and say the 400i would be better all around - the only thing the 400 beats it in is bass (slightly) and soundstage (slightly).  The 400i has noticeably better mids and less fatiguing highs, plus is much more comfortable.

And it already comes with Focus Pads, to make the 400 better most people (including myself) prefer them with Focus Pads.

The bass on the 400i is still very very good - it hits harder than the HD800 and i prefered it to the PM3s which is a very warm bass elevated closed ortho can

If you really want the 400, id wait for the new 400S which looks like the 400 in a 400i/560 body

Cheers to you as well. :) Yeah. That seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. I still remember the sound signature from when I listened to them, and there has been a tingling sensation in me since. At the time, like I posted earlier, I was looking for something bigger and brighter, but now I feel I'm lacking that darker, heavy sound, for certain music. Judging from what I remember, and from several posters and reviewers her, these will suit me perfectly.

Thank you for your input man. Honesty is s good thing in my book. Thing is, I have been eying the 400's for a long time, and I actually tried them once. At the time I had already listened to the GS1000i's, and I much preferred them. I bought the PS1000's in the end, as I got a great deal ln them. I don't think I will ever find hp's that sound better than these, but no matter how fulfilling they are, they still dont fill all the roles I wish hp's to be able to fill (none does I think).

The HD650's grew ln me during just a single evening. They are extremely good all-rounders, and I have never before experienced hp's that "change" this much, from album to album, from genre to genre, which is great for everyday listening in great quality, and mixing when I make or mix music (hobby).

STILL, there was one single genre I felt wasnt fulfilled, and that is bass heavy electronic music.

In other words, I feel I already have those "other strengths" covered, so that is why I chose just these

Good luck with them. Do let us know how they work out for you. They, according to what I read, are the all time best selling headphones from Hifiman. There must be lots of people that like them. They just didn't get it for me in their stock form.

I just got bought a pair of these off of another Head-Fi member, Howdy. I already prefer them to the 400s, the midrange is just perfect, and I love mids. Brought a lot of needed aggression back in to my metal. On the 400s the bass is more enjoyable for bass-heavy music. But I prefer the 400i for a better midrange and more clarity, vocals sound better and honestly I personally prefer the amount of bass the 400i possesses for most genres of music.

I probably should sell my 400s but I think I'd still get some use out of them.

things are going to get really confusing soon with Hifiman naming a new headphone the "HE-400s" and people talking about the old HE-400 in plural form. hahah

Has anyone actually seen the 400s or is it just someone speculating or trolling I haven't seen anything about it on hi-fi man's website and there is nothing on the Internet when you perform a search for it.

Until it is officially announced I do not believe it exists.

Anyone could have made that in Photoshop if it had an actual link to the website where it came from then maybe I will believe it until then I think it is not real.
All I am saying is I would like to see some actual proof.

It was in the official hifiman newsletter that many people received.

If it was in a newsletter  then why can't I find it anywhere on the Internet I have never received a newsletter like that from them yet. And I have been on their mailing list for a long time.

Perhaps it was in your spam folder or it maybe a different mailing list. Hifiman hasn't been always the best with updating their sites. Perhaps if you are really still skeptical private message hifiman on the forums here. Though there were pictures taken by hifiman in another thread and you can see the he-400s in the pictures if you expand them.
