Also, am I the only here who's slightly miffed by the fact that planars are becoming easier and easier to drive? Here I am with a Mjolnir sitting on my desk, wondering where all that excess power is going to go...

As someone who hasn't taken the plunge yet, I'm okay with it! XD

It's going to waking up the slow and dark Audeze

But if the Audeze is dark, then you should be slower and more cautious...  Who knows what will happen on your long Audeze, and if you're too quick with it, it can end rather abruptly...

 Oh well!

the problem with your setup is that it doesn't include an HE6!!

It's hard to have too much power. More power isn't just more volume output, it also means more dynamic sound, and handles complex music better. Turn a 250mW amp up til it gets super loud on an ortho can, and compare to a 5W amp at equally loud volume; you can tell the 5W amp is much better sounding; bass hits much harder. There are songs where you'll want to crank up the volume ready loud, and the extra oomph allows for that while maintaining sound quality.

The most common term is "overhead". Having extra power is never a bad thing, it means you're never driving it to its limits.

It's to my understanding that too much overhead where you're barely turning the pot is also not good, yes? Possibly amp/hp mis-match?

Well yeah, if you're so vastly overpowering your drivers that it's maxed at 10% of its capability it means you're playing with fire, but I mean "within reason" LOL.

Hence, amps have gain settings. Just don't leave your gain at highest on a Mjolnir before plugging in your IEM, and you should be fine.

It's actually kinda funny, that. With headphone amps it seems like the preferred method is to put your source at 75-100% (depending on who you ask) and then control the volume from the amp. Car audio it's the reverse. Set your gains at the maximum clean signal and adjust through the head unit.

Note: yeah that's because you can't really adjust the car amp's volume remotely, was just making a point.

I don't see where there's any flaw with running your source at 100% but if you run it lower you can lose bits depending on your sources capability

Even though I feel people wine too much. I feel embarrassed of myself by reading back on other peoples posts and realizing how much better it is to have it lighter. I was kinda joking. But its true lighter over all is better.
