<-- was a big part of my day yesterday... literally. My college has free popcorn, great for those munchies that we all know everyone has in college  Too bad that was the day I also realized that bubbles had broke.

I'm still awaiting my response about the headband. Meanwhile a used HE-500 with a small scratch is lingering in the classifieds for $480

That's a pretty sweet deal.  Ah, now I think I can guess who, or what, bubbles was.  R.I.P.

And there were a pair of HE-5LEs at a killer price.  May still be there.  Reading about them recently really piqued my interest, but then I recall the HE-560s and OPPOs and go back to window shopping.

And for the record, I'm really curious about the headband, too.  I reckon if it is compatible, it'll be available around the time the first new cans are released, or shortly thereafter.  Maybe jerg will be able assess compatibility when he gets his review pair.

  OK, so what is bubbles?

Bubbles was my first bubbler/piece...and is now a thing of the past

He served me well. Lived in a mason jar. I kept it pretty clean too; he was rasta colored. Snapped right between the mouthpiece and the bowl. I don't even know how the jar and it broke because I was always careful when setting down my backpack etc.

Yeah, that would be great if he could inspect it and make a judgement call on it at least, if hifiman doesn't let us know themselves. And yes...I do think you guessed who, or what, bubbles was. My very first, already gone. Time to go shopping again.

The HE-5LE had my interest for a long time after I started reading about it recently, but I soon realized that the increased treble is definitely something that I do not want. Honestly I think if the bass on the HE-500 was just a tad less bloomy then everything else would even out. I realized that separation and everything seems excellent till the bass line begins, and only then does everything sound very coherent yet very "smushed" together.

You need to try the HE-6. I will be bringing mine to the next meet at the bottlehead headquarters in april.

IDK if I will be able to go to that though... I'll definitely try my best though! It is pretty far from Lynnwood, Washington.

  Hi,
Just want to give everyone a quick update. We just received several production samples from the factory. They are being heavily tested right now. If every things go well which we fully expect, we will give the factory the green light to start the full production of HE-560. We expect the first batch of production run to be done by mid March. Hopefully we will be able to get them to your hands before the end of March.

I have to say that the final production version of HE-560 is much better than the prototypes we showed at CES. You guys will love it. :)

Hi guys,

This is my first post here.
Great to hear some of those news.
I read soooo many things about the HE 400 and 500, that I arrived to the conclusion that next iteration would be reaaaally interesting.
Weird trebles and not so great midrange in the HE400,
HE500 reaaallllly heavy, and with a design a bit under its price.

I was going to get some he500 from the sales/trades forum, but I was told that the he400i was around the corner.
And I read this topic. Saw the pics. WOW.

Looks great.
Whatever happens, it will be better.
I was also waiting for the OPPOs, but no date and no price tag led me desperate.

Now, I will be patient.

But, I was wondering:
- if he560 is due to late March (early April), what about he400i? Is is still being tweaked? Final decision made?
Can we see pics of the advances?

- I live in Europe; how can I get one of these when they get released? (prices are crazy in euros; the he500 sells at 599 euros, which is roughly 750$.... I can't go this way)

That is GREAT news, really.

Have all a nice day!

The new line-up will most likely just swap the dollar sign for the euro sign as it has been with former models.

There will be new pictures fairly soon. No one knows if they'll be released at the same time but most likely they will.

You should never form conclusions based on reading alone. People's opinions that you read are subjective, and you may not find the HE-400/500 heavy at all. My advice to newbies like yourself, take all impressions with a grain of salt; and make your final conclusions based on (extensive) listening, not others' opinions.

this +1

With regards to sound, the more seasoned review writers or just the long time members are pretty good about describing the sound, for example I just upgraded from a DT 880 to an HE 4, EVERY one told me the HE 4 was in all respects a "super dt 880" and it is, BUT with regards to comfort that is 100% dependant on the individual, most of us have simmilar enough ears to have trusth worthy sonic impressions, but comfort is based on a SLEW of variables, shape of your head, your body type your posture ect... ect... ect...

Still I agree that waiting for the 400i is a smart choice

I recommend Stereodesk. I buy my Alpha Dogs for France from them. They are very nice & attentive.
(Edit : Fred from Stereodesk could try the HE-560. He told me that this is a big improvement from HE-500... wait 'n see
