Westone Signature W-series W50 & W60

The W50 seems like a miss. Whereas, the W60 is pretty brilliant. Despite the W60 being more expensive, it is a no-brainer between the two. YMMV

Yeah. Even accounting for sound signature preferences, the gulf in quality between the W50 and W60 is far greater than what the price tag suggests. In fact, The W40 is the better IEM, IMO. The W50 seems to be the literal dark horse in the lineup.

I even preferred the W30 over the W50.

I really can't see a market for the W50. I deem it as a very hefty misstep on the part of Westone.

W50 is hot garbage!  I would take the W20 over it.

W10 next?

I like a dark sounding product even though I know it is far from reference. As a an example, I own Audeze lcd products. That being said dark/warm can sound musical done correctly but the w50 is an odd bird. Dark would not be the first way I would describe it. I would say unbalanced and not necessarily musical. I could see Kpop or dub step genre people liking the mid bass.

Final thought. If people listened to what is known as dark like the lcd2.2 and compared it to the w50, I would bet they would say the lcd is reference neutral which it is not. It is all relative.

When all else fails go demo for yourself. If your ears love a sound then go for it.

nah thats for the W60, W50 is for bass head.

LOL. If I wanted a thumping ear/headphone, I'll take the sub-$100 XB500 instead. Equally dark, a LOT more bass, and a whole lot more fun. Yeah, you'll lose out in clarity, detail, soundstage, and a lot of other technical aspects. But what do you gain? A truly basshead experience.

Anyway, I think that's the problem with the W50 - its sound signature is not preferred amongst the audiophile crowd. There are certainly audiophiles who love darker, bass-heavy IEMs, but from what I'm seeing on Head-Fi, they are in the minority.

westone is comfort first, while the xb500 maybe better for bass head but I dont think the comfort exceed the W50, westone IEM comfort is second to none.
