Again, the key point is that these work in every other device...including a DX100.  I have no desire to strip ten years of input effort into my tags down to bare bones when many of these have additional information I need, such as indicating they are from an analog source, etc.  The media scan locks up within two minutes and then nothing.  Manually I've entered thousands of songs via the file directory view and they scan quickly and efficiently.  Interestingly, I have one folder with over 1,000 songs in it and it loaded very quickly while using this technique.  The files in that folder have the tag structure as all of my other files. 
 
Especially because DX100 eats this media like candy...this is a DX90 bug and it needs to be fixed.

Hi Wolfen68 can you send an e-mail to iBasso with your experience? I have almost the same problems and iBasso is helpful and trying to find a solution, so your experience with this can help them to fix it.

Hi razerx, my DX90 can handle 24 bit/192 kHhz without a problem.
 
Try this to confirm that yours can also (or not): go to the link kindly provided by musicheaven: http://designwsound.com/dwsblog/recordings/audiophile-jazz-prologue-3-free-hi-res-samples/ Register and download the 4 free files, 2 songs at 24 bit/192 kHhz and the same songs at 24 bit/96 kHhz. The files are in AIFF format so they are pretty massive. Unzip them.  I use .flac so I converted them to .flac (compression level 5) using dbPoweramp converter. The file size dropped by at least 1/3. 
 
I then copied the files to the internal memory of my DX90 (USB connection from laptop). They played perfectly and gave the correct readouts of file resolution on my DX90.
 
All I need to do now is to listen often enough to see whether I can hear any difference between 192 kHz and 96 kHz
 
I hope it works out for you. Assuming it does, then the next question is what problem do you have with your 192  files which is preventing your DX90 playing them.

I figured out what I did wrong and all is well now. For one of the affected 24/192 files I converted to ALAC from the original FLAC with XLD so I could change the metadata on iTunes. It was an e-Onkyo download so everything was in Japanese. Apparently that was the problem. I deleted it and loaded the original FLAC and the DX90 play was flawless. I did the same with the Cars 6 album HDTracks download. I converted it to ALAC because I wanted to separate all the tracks into individual albums in iTunes. The DX didn't like the ALAC files converted with XLD apparently.

Anyway with that problem solved I am loving this little player. I was getting tired of my triple stack non portable kit and now one little player is all I need ( plus another few hundred bucks in downloads of course.)

Question: when putting the gain on high and using LO to 240, the player really got warm to the touch, anyone experienced it? Never was an issue with lower gain. I will have to perform a few experiments here, the heat at the level is not a big issue as long as it does not get worse, mind you can be very handy during cool winter days.

I believe HD800 is much more efficient than HD600. Similarly, my Beyerdynamic T1 which has somewhat similar efficiency as HD600 seems to be driven just fine directly from DX90 @ high gain volume at 240 - 245.
 
Bass is as tight as it was driven from an external amp and so far I can't detect any hint of distortion nor clipping.
 
I just made a quick comparison with DX50 and even at 255 on high gain, DX50 is noticeably weaker driving my T1 directly.

Looks neat but I'd recommend folks get a great 24/192 wav file and do there own conversions from there in DBpoweramp or XLD and compare that way. Try the FLAC vs wav compare on the DX90.

Nope. No need to debate but everyone should try stuff for themselves and come to their own conclusions vs accepting everything they are told. DX90 is revealing enough for folks to come to good conclusions, whatever those are. The popcorn was because I knew there would be responses that want to squash personal assessment. I don't prefer wav and kinda like flac 0 on my anv3 but prefer wav on the dx90, as I do on my rather costly home kit. ymmv  

Be careful about what's in your popcorn you might open up a major can of worms. Or maybe not.

The dual sabre DAC detail retrieving capability is simple awesome. I can hear some background sound or music I didn't hear with the Dx50. At first I thought is distortion lol.

Share similar findings, feels like it's the next step for reaching the sound quality paradise.

My discovery, which does not cease to amaze me, has taken me a step higher with every dap I sample. Just as I thought I reached the sq nirvana, another dap steals the show. Great time for music lovers!
