Well after 200 hours of listening and burning in the DX90, the sound from the DX90 output is much better, the lows and mids are very detailed and clarity is top notch to me.
Although like Caruryn, Kwangsun, Djinnenjous, T.R.A.N.C.E., H20Fidelity and chawya22 again I find the W4 pairing with the DX90 too warm with treble roll-off, even with additional impedance dialed in as recommended.
I am not sure if this is a common occurence with the DX90 but I find listening to the W4 on the DX90 is tiring/grating: sometimes I feel like I am listening to a sawtooth waveform without anti-aliasing (to borrow the term from 3D graphics acceleration). I am wondering if this could be the multitudes of extra details presented by the DX90 that my old source, with the W4, could not present; or it could be the genre of music I am listening to uses a lot of electronic waveforms. Either way I swear I can hear new details I couldn't hear previously.... oh joy....
So synergy between the DX90 and W4 isn't working for me, bass is lacking in the bottom end as well - the W4 just coudn't produce the bass and treble like my cans, or my home hifi-speakers via the line-out.
I thought it's time for a dynamic IEM. My previous dynamic IEM was a Monster Turbine Pro Copper which I sold after getting the W4. So now in anticipation of the sound quality of the DX90 I took the jump and bought a pair of ATH-CKR10. This is my first ATH phones. And wow! Even without burning in, the ATH-CRK10 gives me back the loads of bass and the treble that the W4 seriously subdues.
Hopefully this will be a good pairing for the next few years for me.
