FiiO E17 & iBasso DX50

I'm aware that this is probably a stupid question but would you ever use a portable DAC/amp with a portable player? I haven't seen anywhere where people are talking about this & I got an E17 earlier this year. I'm about to upgrade to a portable music player but I'm wondering if the E17 has any use here?

A better question actually would be what has better sq. An E17 paired with say a Sony E Series Walkman? Or just go ahead and buy something like a FiiO E7 or Cowon Z2? & if I did happen to buy an E7 or something would it benefit anything for me to pair it with the E17?
