I'm looking for specific help for using headphones with my relatively new Panasonic Viera plasma (TC-P50GT25). The TV has a single audio out -- a toslink that's described as "PCM/Dolby Digital." There is no menu-based way to change the format of the TV's audio output. The TV is not attached to an AVR (for simplicity for family, etc.). There is a PS3 (BluRay player) as an HDMI-based TV input. There is no headphone-type jack for the TV itself. After some research, I got a Nuforce HDP headphone amp/DAC which has a mini-optical connector, and planned to use this to power (new) Bose noise-canceling QuietComfort 15's. The headphones "work" for Netflix streamed via the PS3, or for discs played on the PS3, but they don't work when I'm watching HD broadcast TV off air (just rhythmic clicking static). There is sound when I pick up what I think is a non-HD off-air channel. I assume that this is an audio format incompatibility. Is there a better solution (short of an AVR)? Thanks!
