Aurisonics ROCKETS: Impressions Thread

Sep 5, 2014 at 1:37 PM Post #1,531 of 3,459
I was gonna say, the whole purpose of the tour was to fill it with hard asses/skeptics and those who are very familiar with the qualities of absolute top shelf phones. This way, no one has any ulterior motives nor would they likely be easily wowed like a nascent enthusiast would. Most of these guys have heard all or most of the kilobuck phones.

What Sony did you recently hear that had less veils and detailed bass you had not heard before?

Think he's referring to the Sony H3/CKR9

Just gonna repost my first impressions here:
I am gonna put my ass out on the line here and say this is not honeymoon level stuff. Might people be less enamored over time? Maybe, preferences are preferences, but the technicalities are undeniable.

What Sony did you recently hear that had less veils and detailed bass you had not heard before?

Oh I meant by the way he wrote it, haha. I encoursge that about the post. I will never deny capabilties of an earphone, I just planned to put a mochill joke in there for funsies, lol.

Then I added that comparison to my own 'honeymoon' because I am still to this day agitated by my advocation of certain iems/headphones that are considered a guilty pleasure.

The ath-re700 for one, and the sony h3s.

The xba-40s were the sony earphones that lacked refinement in bass, had quite the deprecation in mid to treble quality (which then sounded veiled imo) . When I received the sony h3, however, I sung praises about the capabilities of the earphone and then only realized its shortcomings. It still had a hint of veil to the mids, the bass could be better controlled, and the soundstage could use a bit of depth work. Now it is not because I hate that it has shortcomings for me personally, but that peole will be misled by some fallacious romanticizations that I posted about the phones themselves.

Eke only appears to be on a honeymoon because he wrote like mochill. That comment he made is reliable though, and I will not question the credibility of his post. I did want to point out that his post resembles a mochill moon experience, which i find delightful and hilarious in a good sense.

Gotcha. Harder better faster stronger and whatnot.
I wasn't questioning your questioning so much as I was adding my two cents after having them for a little while now.

I was really hoping you weren't gonna say the H3 lol, which I rather liked actually. Kinda wish i had a chance to try the dual mod though =/

I guarantee you you that bass control and depth of imaging will not be the complaints that end up being posted about the Rockets sound.

Oh ok, just became a bit apprehensive as I thought there may be misunderstandings from my post lol.

I actually love the h3s to this day. The fit is something that bothers me more than the sound itself, lol! Then again, the ath-ckr9s are as big as the h3s (though facing a different direction), and even then people struggle with fits that phone.

I still enjoy the h3's soft euphoric bass, the tantalizing highs (I swear, best pristine highs I have heard to date), and the mids do have a sense of delicacy and lushness that I do not mind the slight veil. Now, if the rockets could incorporate most of the treble that the sonys have (Like the ath-ckr9s somewhat do), and the beautiful mids from both my h3s and ckr9s (which I do not doubt), then it is a steal for $250!

I truly wish I backed it up during the $99 kickstarter. I literally fell enthralled to see the price of these beautiful earplugs(after reading the comments here, I now dub them musical earplugs), pretty consumer friendly. I did not have the money then though, so that is unfortunate. Your confidence and assurance of the rocket's proficiency in its aggregate FR and the potency of its SS thrills me. I am now considering myself frugal until the rockets debut next year.

I hope all rocket owners continue "hyping" them as I want one more earphone to complete my 'Rise of the $200 Titans' collection.

+1 - Liked the IEM - hated the Frankenstein fit. At first I thought I was doing something wrong - they couldn't stick out like this? Could they? Lo and behold, they did. That is the reason I think I am attracted to the Rockets a whole lot more than the new Sony IEM (Z5 is it?) I saw their video and Sony made sure you didn't see a clear forward shot with them inserted for more than a split second - they are going tho hang out like little wings.... very aerodynamic I imagine.

I don't know that I'd call the bass euphoric on the Rockets, its more direct, clean, and very much all business. The highs are of a slightly different character, less powdery, and the mids are front aggressive and vibrant. Its not really a romantic sound, but an open and raw sound. What you described is closer to the FX850 lol. Have you heard those?

For anyone that has the Rockets, this is a real treat:

I plugged the Rockets in as I was prepping the package for eke and jotted down some notes. Two points of interest follow:

•The low end quality is truly splendid. Listening to the edges of bass notes is a treat as they show very(VERY) good definition. What this gives the listener is an excellent sense of clarity and so, texture. Rumble, also know as sub-bass, could use a small boost to better bring out grunt for my taste but is otherwise quite clean and present. Thump, also known as mid-bass, can stay as is. Unlike my small(now smaller) gripe with the deep end, I find the mid bass thump well elevated for this signature.

•Cymbals seem more alive/sparkly then before. What this causes is better alignment with the vocal presence, meaning I can easily focus on either frequency without worrying about overpowering. Where before I would have liked a bump here, I now find myself quite happy. Not only did it gain balance, it kept its clarity.

I would now place them @

Highs: KC06=Rockets>tenore...

I didn't notice any changes to vocals that I could decipher with any measure of confidences. All I can do is once again repeat they sound quite crisp and clean. I used one song in particular to test vocals that I posted;

Listening to this song with KC06's also gave me a very good sense of clarity and I wish I could have more time with them. This is a Rockets thread but I got to give this shout out again, KC06 mid-highs @ the asking price... Rockets will be what? $250 retail. Hmm.... Just a thought. Again, KC06....

KC06...

Yes, the KC06 offers amazing value. I unfortunately discovered that my ear has some kind of allergic reaction to the metal shell though, so i avoid using them for long periods. As for the Rocket, if it is as well rounded a sonic package as described here, it's reasonably priced even at 250$, especially if you factor the build quality and the warranty. I personally can't wait to get my hands on a pair and i don't want to wait for the official release whenever that is, so i hope the coming mic equipped batch triggers some sales of the regular version

At the end of the day, this makes them "end all" for me. I have yet to find an iem that was the complete package. The cable people! Glorious! There is no other earphone like it on the market right now.

I abuse the cable every day and I still can't get it to remember anything. No matter what happens the cable just straightens itself after sitting for a bit. Has anyone had any luck in inducing cable memory on the cable? At this point I'm out of ideas.

Hey guys, i've been eyeing the Rockets for sometime now, but am perplexed why there aren't any proper reviews done on them yet. I'm looking for an IEM to replace my Hifiman RE-600 while i'm out and about. The RE-600 doesn't have the best build quality and i'm afraid I might wear them out fast if I constantly used them outdoors. I've read good things about the Rockets on this thread, but would like to know a little bit more regarding their sound signature? I really enjoy the sound signature of my RE-600: airy, huge soundstage, laid back vocals, full-bodied and fast bass. Does the Rockets SQ fall along those lines? I have the JHA Roxanne but found its signature too V-shaped (dark + too much energy on the treble). Also, is there a frequency response graph for the Rockets somewhere? Many thanks!

Thank you very much!

EDIT: Ok, i'm convinced. Sounds like they'll fit the bill perfectly. However, it seems that I can't find them anywhere in Australia at the moment. I was told stock is due in sometime next week. Is there anywhere else (online) where I can readily purchase the Rockets? Earphone Solutions currently do not have stock either.
