Yes for sure. The early iPods had a mechanical scroll wheel but they were not as accurate and tended to break down more easily so they went to the touch wheel. I owned 3 ipod classics at one time and they were always very reliable. I don't think there is any question the touch wheel is superior to the mechanical wheel.

Definitely! Have you ever owned a click wheel iPod? The touch wheel is far superior to that of the mechanical scroll wheel used in the X1, X3II and X5II. I don't think anyone would disagree with that. It was the one thing that was holding back the X1 & X3II. I consider the X1 superior to the Ipod classic in every way except the scroll wheel but now with a touch wheel the X1 will be the superior player. Apple doesn't really care one way or the other...they discontinued the classic in 2014 and are probably from what I've heard going to discontinue all iPods. Apple is all about the iPhone and iwatch now.

Of course it is better. It means less chance of the wheel breaking due to something physical wearing out or breaking.

  Most of my lossless are purchased from Itunes store and Flac is not much useful for mac and ios devices.

There are programs for OS X that you can use to convert to FLAC fairly easily.

Does anyone have any idea about the software/os they are using with the X1 2nd gen? 
It seems the same stock firmware of old X1. I hope they have improved their os with the new hardware.

I forgot to mention that there are programs for iOS and OS X that will play FLAC. So going FLAC is not an issue. Plus, FLAC has better compression and thus, you save hard drive space as well as space on the player.

It's not convenient when you have a mac and buy Alac iTunes to convert it to flac.  The difference in size between the Flac and Alac isn't substantial enough for many to care.  
 
It's really not necessary.
