Just caught up on this one.

So yet another boombox? :frowning2:

I'm wondering if I should wait for some reviews, see if anyone thinks that neutrality can be achieved with a bit of tweaking. Or just go for a colourfly C3 which are now surfacing on ebay for about the same price of an X1.

If it was done through the FW rather than hardware (like tweaking the op amps on the output stage), then there's a chance somebody will hack it. DX50 has a sound unlocked unofficial FW for example. In any case I wouldn't dismiss the X1 without listening to it - the X3 had some feeedback about being warm, but when I used it with my ASG-1's, the treble was a lot better than on my non-Wolfson SGS3 (I haven't heard the Wolfson version, but my T-mobile unit kinda sucks on that dept)

output power: 70@32ohms and 120mW@16ohms

based on these updated specs, do people think the x1 would properly power audio technica m50 or k550? it looks to me like it might. i expect to be buying one of them in the next week or so and needing an amp might affect my decision. thanks

The X1 will be out by September.

The ATH-M50 is easy to drive and it can for sure drive the K550 to good volume.

That would depend to a large extend on how good your hearing and your source material is. The IM70 are nice earbuds it seems. The iPhone 5 isn't a bad device. If you got good quality files then the X1 should be able to get some more from it. If your main source of music is medium or low bitrate mp3 then you won't gain much.

Thanks for your help.
My main source of music is 320kbps mp3 and some flac files ,but because of my small capacity Iphone storage I am unable to get those flacs on my phone. Therefore I am considering a dap.

In that cse this might be a winner. If you want to discover if a seperate DAP is for you then you could also consider a sansa clip+ or clip zip. Put rockbox firmware on it and stick a memory card in it and you have the best budget player.

Sure, shall wait for this to be release then will try it out at local shop while comparing with Sansa clip.

IMO, the iPhone 5 sound great itself. If you wish to have a better potential upgrade, look into the Onkyo Player for Hi-Res playback and whenever your not happy with the SQ of iPhone 5 and feel the need of upgrading, you can always get a FiiO E07K + CCK or iDSD by iFi + CCK for DSD playback

Hope it helps
Billson :)

I think Billson that his main reason for wanting an X1 was storage. Apple products aren't big on support advanced concepts like memory cards. The Fiio players do support this.

Yes. Main reason is the storage, and since a sansa clip cost around SGD50-60 and with just another $50+ i can get a better DAP which can be used years and years after. But then i will still have to see how much will this X1 cost when it arrive in Singapore.

I think it's pretty standard, especially if you buy them from the official resellers like E1
