Hello friends!
I want to buy sennheiser hd 558 but I don't use external sound card, I use iPod and MacBook for listening. 558 is 50 ohm. I'm not sure it completely sounds perfectly with iPod and MacBook or not!
Could you help me??

Thank you, yes that's right, I decided to change the cable.
I'm a musician and I expect perfect sound but I've heard a little about differences between 32/80/250 ohm series of beyerdynamic dt 770. It seems 32 ohm is for mobile usage or something like this. 250 is for studio and mix... I don't know what the matter is , and I'm worried 50 ohm is not suitable for iPod.
Could you explain it for me ?? What are the diffrences ??
Thanks

This link will explain the differences between the Beyerdynamic headphones.

Headphones that 50-Ohm or less, would be better a choice for use with an iPod.

The HD558 is about 55 ohms but creeps up to about 300 around resonance (90 Hz). Still, I think you should be fine with an iPod in general.

One thing I noticed about that cable is that it's 3 connector 2.5mm on the headphone side, while the original HD558 is 4 connector 2.5mm. Not sure if it matters though.

On the other hand, the original HD558 cable is about 0.9 ohms which puts it a little north of where I feel it should be. The cable upgrade seems reasonably priced and might make things better... 4mm 1.8m should be around 0.01 ohm... Hell I might try it my self!

Ooww!!
You made me worried about changing the cable (3 connectors instead of 4 connectors!!!)
How can I get information to be sure that changing cable is correct ??

I bought the same cable for use with my HD558, it works fine.
The extra channel (connection) on the stock HD558 cable is not used,

As stated by Purple Angel the 558 will work acceptably with these sources, but, after a while you may want to try a dac/amp to bring out their best. If you need portable I used the Fiio E7 (now E07k). With a desktop setup I use an Aune T1 hybrid dac/amp which really makes the 558 shine. Good luck.
