I'm thinking about buying a sony PHA-1 or the new 2. They are japan only models. Can anyone point me to a thread or give me some tips for buying online from a company in japan that has an English friendly site and ships to the US?

Tenso will give you an address to use once you set up an account
have stuff shipped to that address- can combine shipping- pay weight based shipping fees and service fees 
 
for me the challenging part was adding the Tenso address to the Amazon account 
try copy and paste method
 
 
credit card company charge different exchange rates than publish rates and add a fee
Paypal has extra fees and exchange rates too
 
take all into consideration, some things are not as cheap as they appear
