How to get more bass out of the K10's ? deep thumping bass. The cheapest way. The best way. without any kind of EQ is preferred.

You can get definitely get the K10's bass to start thumping with some EQ tweaks. That's one way to go.. And the cheapest, too.

Though for me, I'm happier with an amp. You could get a relatively cheap one with a bass boost function.

Hi all!

I've been lurking around this forum for a few years, but I finally created an account today. Hurray!
I've got a question regarding the old acrylic universal K10 and it's newer, red aluminium-shelled remake. Thing is, I've owned the old acrylic K10U for a few years and recently I'm itching for an upgrade (or change).
When I went to a local store (I live in Singapore btw) yesterday, I was recommended to try the aluminium K10U by the friendly staff. I knew I wouldn't need to, 'cos I already have the K10. However, out of courtesy, I listened to the aluminium-shelled stunner.
And guess what? The red aluminium K10 sounds somewhat different from my trusty acrylic K10, with more energetic and clearer treble and (perhaps consequentially?) wider sound stage. Also, the overall loudness (or sensitivity, since now I'm a Head-fi member and have to start using the jargons LOL) seem to be increased in the newer model.
I'm confused, and can't seem to find any sources online that reviews the sonic difference between the acrylic and the aluminium versions. Also, I noticed some metallic fittings around the lumens of all 3 bores. Can someone enlighten me please? Is the sonic difference due to a redesign of some sort in the red aluminium model, or is it due to the aluminium shell? Otherwise, is it just my acrylic K10U becoming old?

For the record, I use Onkyo DP-X1, and the comparison was done using the stock Noble cables.

Cheers
Jeff

I've compared my custom K10 with both universal versions in the past, but I didn't detect any noticeable differences between them. Could very well be changes in fit that's causing this change in sound?

Sorry for asking what is probably answered somewhere else in this thread, but can universals (Katana or Encores) be reshelled to custom? If so, how much does it cost?

Thanks!

(I love my Katanas, and I'm thinking about getting some Encores, but I've also got that custom itch starting to build...)

  1. Can you make my universal into a custom or my custom into a universal?

    No.

Just got my new cables for my Katanas. Double Helix 8-strand Fusion silver/copper. Originally had them made for some full-size cans, but sent them in to be repurposed for my Katanas and finally got 'em back.

The sound is definitely improved. The cables bring out the best of the Katanas: more holographic and greater detail.
Still totally worth it even if you assume half the difference is placebo effect (which you gotta considering how cool they look!).

(Also more comfortable. The stock Noble cables are so light they tend to float off my ears, but these stay firmly in place.)

Maybe this will hold the custom impulse at bay a while longer...

Hi all,

Two questions, one more for Noble staff and the other for the fine denizens of this thread :)

1) I see HiDef Lifestyle listed as a dealer on the site, and they have Noble IEMs listed for sale on Amazon. I have some Amazon gift cards and might be interested in a Noble IEM. Will there be any warranty issues buying from HiDef Lifestyle, through Amazon?

2) I have Shure SE425s, and am considering getting either a DAC/AMP for them (Oppo HA2 or maybe the insanity of the iDSD Micro or Mojo) -OR- upgrading my IEMs plus a cheaper DAC/AMP like the Dragonfly. I have no complaints about the 425s, aside from maybe having a smidge more bass wouldn't hurt things when listening to hiphop/rap. I listen to probably 80% rock/metal and the rest scattered among lots of other genres. I prefer balanced sound, and don't like anything bass-heavy that obscures guitars and the like. Would the Sage be a worthwhile upgrade from the 425s? If not, what would you recommend? My budget is no more than around $500-600, so I understand this limits things quite a bit.

Thanks everyone!
-Tyler

4 weeks down, 2-4 to go for my Katanas. Time continues to exponentially slow down. How does one survive as the wait approaches infinity? (In desperate need of the retail therapy right now

I will have had to wait two weeks for my ear impressions, then I'll have at least 8 weeks (plus shipping to America then china) for my encore. One mont and you're clear - you're most of the way there!
