Audeze LCD-X

A couple of months ago I upgraded my LCD-2's to 3's. I was a little worried and miffed when the LCD-X came out a few weeks later. I'm a bit relieved now. If I'd wanted an HD800 I would have bought one.

I think you relaxed too early :)) but we shall soon see. I, for one am not so relaxed as you are.

I have to say I am in the same position.  Should have waited on buying the LCD3's.

Thanks to an anonymous person who purchased the LCD-X and mailed it to me, I have an LCD-X in my hands.

A "good" or "non-veiled" LCD3 is superior. The LCD3 is way more resolving and has better transient response. The LCD-X tonal balance is similar to other the Audezes, i.e. bassy and laid back. Measurements pending.

Wow Purrin, I need to meet an anonymous person like that ;)

Thanks for the impression - looking forward to your measurements :beerchug:

Which amplifier are you using?

Purrin, you've got me excited about the X(C) again!

Going to be A-B'ing the XC against my Thunderpants when my local dealer gets them in stock.
As much as I love the LCD-2 (which I prefer to the LCD-3 - yes I am an oddball) I am likely going to want to go for the upgrade.

Vali was first up. Now listening with Mojo.

Look forward to read how it's faring with the latter. It would be very interesting if you try some music where the LCD-3s don't really outdo themselves, like: classical, acoustic that lot.

Vali is absolutely no go with LCD-X. At 22 ohms, that's getting close to speaker current demands. Vali did not handle that well. LCD-X on Vali is a slow bassy mess.

Mojo brings LCD-X alive.

Man, there are some really different opinions about the LCD-X. Makes me think this is a very source-dependent set of cans. It's either bright, neutral or warm, and resolves significantly better or worse than the LCD-3s.
