Hi, I'm the new kid on the block-
And I have an annoying non-music lover as a neighbour. So I have a question Can I integrate a headphone amp to my set-up so I can toggle between my turntable, cd and dvd/tv without having to switch cables all the time?

Heya,

Yeap, get a headphone amp that has a built in pre-amp. Then you can simply put it between the source, and your speaker amp (or receiver if you have that, but if you have a receiver they have headphone jacks, so I imagine you're not using one). You can then use headphones at any time, via that headphone amp, and it still constantly outputs to your speaker system too via the pre-amp stage.

What equipment are you currently using and how is it all connected?

Very best,

What else is in that set-up, ie, what amp are you using to power the speakers when you listen to all those sources (TT, CDP, DVD)? If you're using one of those conventional integrated amplifiers, check the back if it has an output marked "Tape" or "Rec." That's an output that bypasses the preamp and amp circuitry, basically all the inputs just go out there depending on which is active. If it does have that, you can hook up the headphone amp to that : tape out >> headphone amp input. This is the most ideal set-up given that most headphne amps have only one or two inputs; three inputs are very rare.

Alternately, though, if you're using a separate TT preamp (not one integrated into a dedicated TT input on your integrated amp, as some amps - like NADs - used to), and your CDP isn't one whose sound you really, really, really like, you can get a one-box DAC that has a decent headphone amp* built in. The DAC sction must have two types of SPDIF inputs, then the CDP and DVD can take one each input; and the amp must have at least one pair of direct analog input, where you can hook up the TT.

Look up AudioGD products, they have value for money DAC-HPamps with the kind of input and output options needed.

*that way you get all the important DAC features and us it with pretty much any headphone
