Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model

Ditto. I find my ZX1 didn't have enough juice to drive my ADs nicely. I did note that you (@dleblanc343) mention "for fun". As such I was investigating the PHA-2 add-on but eventually felt using the ZX1 as my DAC & analog-LOD out to my TUR-06 for the AD's.

I kinda figured the ZX1 would not power full-size cans but I do like the Dogs... I'm after a set of full-sized headphones just got to get around choosing some, those Fostex TH-900's look pretty sexy as well.

I suspect the ZX-1 will be available 'officially' for the US market soon. I like most of you started with Sony Walkmans, portable CD players and MP3 players. I bought an anti-shock model CD player, used to wear a belly pack with it in, hooked to IEMs, I think Shure 2xx something, and worked out in the health club that way for a couple of years. LOL hilarious now when I think about it.

In fact I still have those Shures.

Agree, the zx1 lack the power of a dedicated amp like the m8 to drive my full size power hungry phone.. However I do find there is enough power for th900 though.. Then again it depends how loud each of us consider loud..

At full volume on th900, I had a feeling I will go deaf in 2 hrs listening to that level.. Senn hd650 may be a diff story..

My comfortable volume is always less than half way volume on 1p2. I never exceed half that volume for iem even when I am out..

Hello guys, what is the latest word on ampimg this baby? HO or LO? Is there a way to have LOD now without DIY? I do not want to get the PHA2 as it is a brick. I was thinking the new Vorzamp Pure II would fit great under the bump. Anyone tried this combo?

Omg Mim, I thought you were a diehard "one box" solution person. I never thought you would use portable amps or anything like that.

I certainly won't, but I can toy with the idea to pass time...

Okay then, to answer your question, there are cables, you connect to the part at the bottom of ZX1, it works like a line out, you use the dac section but bypass the amp section, then you connect it to your portable amp. The only problem as you can see, it is not your default 3.5 to 3.5 IC cable, you need a special one, one side terminated for Sony Walkmen port. FiiO has I believe, if you search, I am sure you can find aftermarket cables too.

Mimo, for line-out you need one of these WM-LOD's:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOD-Sony-Walkman-MP3-Player-Line-out-Dock-To-3-5mm-Plug-/170683121052?pt=US_MP3_Player_Chargers_Cradles&hash=item27bd81bd9c

you can then use any mini-mini jack you want... headphone-out is just as good as line-out on Walkman's, there really is no difference.

That's really good to know they sound the same.

Hi All:

Does the stock player on this DAP have decent support for custom tags?  Specifically, I'm now using Jriver (on Mac) to manage my music collection and have been making extensive use of the "Composer" tag and an additional tag "Work" to manage my classical music.  It would be great to have a player that can understand this.  I used to use the Artist field for composer when I was using iTunes - I like the Jriver approach much better and would rather not go back to the old approach.

This is pretty much what you get from the stock player.

Having rooted my ZX-1, I have installed BetterBatteryStatus to see what can be draining my battery. It appears that Google+ are doing a few things in the background even though I turned off Wifi and turned on airplane mode. So I have deleted Google+ and its brother Hangout from the system apps (after backup of course) and it's now much cleaner! The other Sony apps don't seem to do much when you don't use them, so I've left them there.

Have a read the following post below I done a while back on amping ZX1 as I have the Vorzuge Duo, most probably one of the most underrated porta amps around these parts, might have something to do with price but then Bentleys don't come cheap either.  Although I have the Duo I am seriously considering going through the hassle of letting my Duo go to upgrade to the Pure II if it is another step up from the Duo.
