3 year itch - Westone 3 vs <something else>?

i thought he was talking about reshelling

I am talking about reshelling.  However there are options, you can have extra drivers added during the reshelling e.g. my westone 3's have 3 drivers (hence the name) but when I have them reshelled I could opt to have an extra driver inserted at a premium.

The price difference between extra driver and not:

Reshell inc ear mould - £225
Reshell, ear mould + 1 driver - £335

What I dont know is what will happen to the sound and its a lot of money for the gamble.  I'm leaning toward not bothering with the extra driver.

There's a big difference between UM UK and International, I just sent an email asking what's the deal about prices and what differences are.

How much difference?  Are you saying it'd be a lot cheaper to send my phones to US along with my ear mould (is that the correct spelling?)?

There'd be a import and tax duty which aint cheap plus warranty would be out of the window.

No, for the money....for the type of music....for the bass...for the great Westone quality and cable...I don't think you can do any better than the W3. The Sonys would be a downgrade.

I have not had all the Sonys but they all seem to have a common characteristic of hot or siblant treble which is quite fatiguing.  W3 is legendary.  First ever 3 way crossover universal IEM.  BIG full sound, can't make it distort at any volume, great detail top to bottom, big soundstage....very little to complain about with that type of music.   Was my favorite IEM for years. But for jazz I prefer the SE535 ever since the STAR tips came out.

hi, edit,  i do not hear any unwanted sibilance on either of my xba's, so I have to disagree on that point. If a singer creates sibilance and the engineer leaves it in the recording I want to hear it, if it is not reproduced then the phone has some degree of high end roll off, has been removed,  or transducer is incapable of reaching the higher frequencies. The xba's are the most accurate, well balanced, flat response, clinical earphone I have used, which really impresses me, as my favourite headphone is a planer. I have plenty of warm fun earphones but I particularly like cold, accuracy, cheers
