Hey guys. I love pretty much love any choral or choir music. If its a person or people singing, I tend to like it. Large choirs or small a cappella ensembles. Mens, womens, or both. Even soloists (but they better be good.)

I figured I would start a thread here where everyone could post their favorite songs and maybe even have some awesome discussions or find some new favorites!

I'll start with a few favorites spread across a lot of categories.

My favorite choral group of all is the king's singers. They do a ton of classic, modern, and arrangements of non-choral songs. Its hard for me to just recommended one. Look at the songs here, and search them on youtube if one strikes your fancy. http://www.kingssingers.com/catalogue/cds-aand-dvds/the-best-of-the-king~s-singers/sigcd297.html

If I had to choose one, their cover of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah is pretty incredible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maGwAzYE4zM

For a modern choral song done by a men's group this is simply awe-inspiring.

For a classic choral song, nothing beats Moses Hogan.

Tell me what you think and share your favorites!

I've always been quite partial to Faure's Requiem, particularly the final movement, the In Paradisum. I especially like this recording of it:

When one is not a label snob, one discovers some real gems on budget labels, in this case Naxos. The chorus heard here is the Oxford Schola Cantorum, led by Jeremy Summerly. They also made a lovely recording of Vivaldi's Gloria, RV 589 (the famous one), also on Naxos.

I agree. One of the harder things about like choir music is that often times it is hard to find both a good quality recording and a good group singing the song. Often times you can only find one of the two. And it is equally frustrating hearing a bad recording of a group that you can tell is singing it very well as it is to hear a high quality recording of another group butchering the song.

chili dude96, unfortunately the youtube links you provided have been taken offline. Trying to complement the traditional "British College" choral repertoire you mention, here is some Italian flair

(the Dixit is an amazing performance, and the Gloria is not too shabby either...).

Here instead is some French sensuous singing (how is my stereotyping?)

Both albums are for available streaming on spotify/mog/etc

I will let somebody else have fun with the 10 (100?) German choral masterpieces that everybody should listen to...

It was just the hallelujah link that was broken. I have fixed it. I suggest listening to it and some of their others, they are very worth it. And because they do lots of different styles, you may hate some of their songs while liking others.

funny, all links are still pointing to "currently unavailable" video for me. Wonder if it is a country or a browser issue? Using chrome from the US. The Faure link (very nice) posted by Argyris works for me.
