Hello all,

I've had my trusty HD600s for a long time now and I'm feeling ready for a change. I use them with a Bottle Head SEX amp/Western Electrics minimax DAC, both of  which I think are excellent.

I like a full bodied, musical sound, with excellent dynamics. But it needs to be revealing and detailed in the hifi sense as well. Could the KOSS ESP-950s be what I'm after?

I'm tempted by some grados, but you read mixed things about them, particularly about certian models being too bright.

The HD700s are also an option, and I'm sure they would be an upgrade, just perhaps not what Im looking for sonically.

I'm largely out of the loop on headphones, as I'm more of a speaker buff, but looking forward to any recommendations :)

ps. At this point Im not interested in anything that is balanced.

The HD600's certainly are detailed and revealing. They're not the final word in resolution, but they're no slouch.
If you're looking for more detail and a more neutral presentation the Hifiman HE-500 might be for you. They're quite heavy compared to a lot of other options though, but sonically are difficult (impossible) to beat for the price, yet easily play with the big boys.
HD700 are an upgrade in resolution, but I found them (and the HD800) too bright/analytical for my taste, which is a bit weird as I'm a Grado fan.

I have no idea if your bottlehead amp synergizes with the HE-500: most HE-500 users say they go well with VERY ballsy solid state amps (high end Schiit amps with high voltage output), or straight from speaker taps (because they can take an electronic pounding).

I never heard HD600 but currently own HD650 and WA7 so at this moment I also have demo pair of HD700 and after using them for about 10 hours I decided I want them cause of wide sound stage, better instruments separation and details retrieval

@bold ... you've just described the HE-500 in a nutshell. I have an HD650 and HE500 in my stable and they are very complementary sets but with the 500 being more resolving, detailed, fuller. But .. caveat lector ... I do run the HE500 via speaker outs though. You can keep your HD600/Bottle Head SEX combo and basically experiment with amping the Hifiman if you get it. You can go the vintage amp route for experiments until you find a good match. So basically seconding Greq's post above. Good luck!
