I really like the looks of the ADs more than the MDP, but are they better for EDM music, I know the MDP are meant for them. The ADs are better all-rounders?
Mine arrived as Dan notes--two dots and one pad per side. After about a month of listening and getting to know them, I pulled the pads and enjoyed the sound signature even more. Not so much brighter, but seemed to be faster--some of my older jazz went from having an antiseptic recording studio sound to more of a live room sound. Things buzzing about. Recent metal/doom like SunnO))) & Ulver's "Terrestrials" became terrifyingly spacious (a good thing).
I've so enjoyed my AD's that I used them as a benchmark for repositioning my main 2-ch rig--the AD's have revealed so much that I never realized I hadn't really found the sweet spot for my Triangle Alteas in our new home.
I gave the LCD-XC a run at the Bay Area meet. My impressions are similar to yours. I think the LCD-XC is a beautiful headphone, and has the Audeze house sound. For my money, the AD's suit me better, but that is a pretty individual choice. I did like the XC. Louis' new headphone was pretty cool too. I spent a little time with it, and liked it. I would need to spend quite a bit of time with them to see if I liked them as well as the AD's. They are two different takes on neutral with sound stage in a closed headphone. I think I understand where Louis is going with these. I enjoyed meeting Louis, and I enjoyed listening to his headphones. They are a one man show, custom build counterpoint to Dan's Alpha Dogs, with a voicing that is true to Louis' interpretation of neutral. For me, the familiarity of the Alphas and the Mr. Speakers house sound won out. Dan's preferred voicing is really close to my ideal, and has been from the first pair of MD's I had.
As someone who only listens to electronic music/EDM, I love the Alpha Dogs for it. Though people say its bass light, the bass is just the right quantity for me. Reading from the MDP, its probably more suited for EDM while Alpha Dogs are good all-rounders.I really like the looks of the ADs more than the MDP, but are they better for EDM music, I know the MDP are meant for them. Has anybody used or care to comment on this combo for semi-portable/home use....I'm building a system from scratch.
AK120 (may go with S mod)
Vorzuge Pure II amp
Alpha Dogs in metallic black pearl
4' Helix DHC Molecule cable
Do you think these 4 compliment each other?
Talk to Trevor at Norse Audio. In the cable market he is the equivalent of Dan. Best possible solution for the price and he will go out of his way for the customer. His cables are covered in silk or cotton not PE or teflon so it is extremely flexible. The wire is true litz, individually enameled strands, not "litz braid". Dan's quality and service but for cables.
As a general point of interest, for most new phones, we are tuning with two BlueMonkeyDots, but some tune ups are only getting one. We're now including the felt tuning discs with Alphas and Pros. Do play with them, they can make a subtle but signifiant shift in the tone of the phone, and people are liking 0, 1 and 2 pads.
I personally am opting for the 1 pad a lot. Anyone who's not posted yet about them?
Have you guys tried the HD700? Thoughts?
I tried the alpha dogs at the SoCal meet and tho I really liked what I heard, they are quite large.
^^ the hd700 couldn't get much cheaper.
