Hi folks, I'm looking for a soundcard for which I'll only be using for headphone gaming. I play FPS competitively and require positional accuracy and accurate environmental sound. Sound quality is not an issue, as I have a USB DAC + external amp for critical listening, movies, and music. Will the Xonar DG, at ~$25-30, suffice for my needs, or do I need to take a step up for a modern Creative card? Although the X-Fi XtremeMusic is an extremely old card, does it have the software capabilities of modern cards? Thanks!

What headphones will you be using?

A used Creative Labs Sound Blaster Titanium (non-HD), can sell used on eBay for around $50
and is a newer "revision" compared to the Xtremegamer.

Not sure how it's relevant but I use HD700s 99% of the time.

XtremeMusics can be had for ~20-25 on ebay, which is about the same price as the DG, which is why I'm comparing the two. Does the Titanium bring anything to the table the XtremeMusic doesnt'?

The only difference I know for sure is the Titanium (Non-HD) comes with S/PDIF optical output, the Xtrememusic does not come with S/PDIF. Not sure about other differences.

If you got a Titanium HD (Used?), you could plug the external amplifier into it and never need to use the GubDAC.

The XtremeMusic's audio processor comes with more hardware features that can be used for FPS gaming, compared to the Xonar DG.
