I know this has been discuss before but can someone explain the mod blue, white and black. Correct me if I'm wrong but the mod blue is just removing the foam from the blue, and the mod white is when u take the same foam from the blue and put it in the whites? And idk how to get the mod black but I'm not interested in that mod.

If we're still talkin' 'bout amazon, I was just curious about the ak120/240, so I looked them up.  The 120II was can$3,800 and the 240 was can$5,100 or more.  Our dollar bites, but not that much.  Not that I wanted them, but there's something wrong in the dominion.

This is not right, i dont use amazone. The 120|| is 1799 can and 240 is 2499 can $ at many online can retailers.

The blue mod is just taking the foam out of the blue filter to gain a bit of treble extension.  I tried doing the same to the black, it didn't do much.  Why would you put foam in the white?  The whole point of the white is to gain treble extension.  Why would you want to negate that by adding foam to it?

I have no filters in mine and it sounds great.  But YMMV on that one.

I did the Massdrop a while back at the same price.  I got hit with sales tax so it was about $835 or so.  Not bad compared to $999.  However, if you buy from Amazon there is a good return policy and no question about warranty.  Mass drop will intercede if warranty is not honored directly, but that means the item goes to Masdrop and then they push for the warranty $.

Those are great prices. Couldn't find any reputable dealer selling in England for less than standard £849. Having said that I travelled 120 mile round trip and had demo, so no risk that didn't like.

I ended up trying some combination, and I like the black filters in the blue the best, I tried the blue in the white just to see the sound change and the hi stayed the same but it had a bit more sound stage/resolution and bass impact the mids were even more foward but not as good as the blue or black mod and unmoded, the blue with no filter sounded idk a bit recess to me and the blue with black sounds very warm and smooth and the imaging is good but I can see my self getting fatigue from this sound, the bass on that has the rumble of the black and the slam of the blues. I haven't tried the blacks in the white or the blacks with no filter yet

I remember you saying there was one piece of foam you shouldn't remove. Am I right in that the end you take the foam out of the other end from the one with the rubber ring? The one that is just a straight tube (in comparison to the other end with varying shapes and the rubber ring)? And it's just the closest piece of foam, correct? Nothing beyond that?

Imagine a gun barrel.  Take the foam out of the part of the tube the bullet comes out of.

Finally I tried it without any filter tube. I couldn't stand the sound – sleek, hollow/reverberative and shrill, impossible to correct with the EQ. So I started a new adventure: sacrificed the black tubes by pulling/pushing both filters out. The sound changed quite a bit compared to no filter and to the white filters I was used to. Required a different EQ curve as well (more bass). But I think it sounds best of all variants I've tried so far: very open and airy, very smooth, with extended treble, just a hint of sleekness (which may turn out as refinement, though). I'm still in the process of getting used to the characteristic, but I can say that classical music has never sounded better. Definitely more refined than with the original white filters.

Im back to un modded blues. I found it reverbrative as well maybe a tinch shrill. My dhc seemed to fix any issues i may have perceived. No eq either. Its funny its a matter of time before one tries to play with filters.

I think source has a lot to do with it.  I'm listening out of a Pono but I see Hugo listed in both of your sigs.  That probably has a lot to do with what we are hearing/liking.  It's nice that everyone can find something they like in a single iem used in a variety of ways.

Wow, that's a ridiculous markup.  Either there's an extremely high tariff (doesn't seem likely there would be that much difference between the two nations), or there aren't any honest companies selling them up north.

Yes, add to this the different ears. It wasn't my intention to question your perception or your system in any way.

I'm still not entirely sure if I'll stay with the hollow filter tube, but it sounds good so far.
