REVIEW - Yulong Audio Sabre DA8 Reference DAC
Jan 13, 2014 at 12:13 PM Post #931 of 1,613
Anyone compare to the M1DAC from Music Fidelity? I'm looking t upgrade, but want a similar sound sig. The only other DAC I owned was the Gamma2 which was significantly warmer than the M1DAC. I'm debating between this, the X-Sabre, and the W4S DAC2, any thoughts?

That's weird, sure your channels are not remapped in software?
Hardware position of the XLR outputs

Correct position:

"Strange" position:

If you use, as I do, active monitors "pro" you get, on the rear of the DAC, XLR cables that cross each other.

I dont understand what the problem is with the outputs being in the position as they are on the DA8. Its not rocket-science to put the left on left and right on right.

All manufacturers do as the first picture.
You have your equipement and the XLR cables.
The left cable goes to your left monitor, the right to the right.
It is not a big problem but it's a solution only used in the studios where someone think that technicians are stupid.

"Hey you, put the left cable in the left hole!"

Right, and I understand most manufacturers place the inputs in that fashion.
What Im trying to say is, 'dude-who cares?' Its not like it degrades the SQ.

And I dont see how and why someone would think that the techs are stupid. Im sure the left was placed on the left-side and right on the right-side because yulong was facing the rear of the DA8.

Not a big-deal.. Wait, should the USB input be on the bottom and the optical on top?

In pro you have all your equipment into the racks, you can access to them by rear and you have a lots of cable in these racks

Ah I see, that totally makes sense--Its clear to me now. Thank you.

Is there a way to turn off the display?

Not that I'm aware of. Just the auto-dimming is all we get (which for me is perfect). Yulong mentioned that he took great care in making sure the LCD did not contribute negatively to the sound quality, so it's shouldn't be an issue in that respect.
