Thoughts on Monster Diesel Vektr On Ear for $85?  Any other suggestions with comfort, portability, minimal leakage/isolation, solid build and preferably style?  Under $85 on Amazon would be best because I have gift cards :D  I listen to a wide variety from Bastille and Avicii to Eminem to Tim McGraw.  Thanks

Hey buddy, thanks for this write up, nice to see some competent reviews from a name I recognize. I purchased the HP50's based on yours and many other solid reviews but they just didn't make the cut for me. I went in to Best Buy/Magnolia tonight and listened to the P7's and thought they were pretty nice! Very comfortable with a mostly balanced sonic character. Some fun factor there as well but something was missing for me. Not sure what it was, maybe with a more controlled listening environment I could get a better opinion developed.

I also tried the Momentums which I liked apart from the top end and fit issues, The K550's which were too anemic, some 380 pros (not bad for the price), and the PSB's which I could not assess due to the left driver being out, but I will say they were a helluva a lot more comfortable than the HP50's.

I wanted to ask if you have had any time with the 1540's? From what I've read I'm assuming they will be too bass heavy with too much treble roll off to hit the mark for me. I liked the 940's apart from comfort issues. The female vocals could be somewhat nasally and bass was shy but for a sub $300 headphone the detail retrieval was fantastic and soundstage was solid for a closed can. Any direction you could steer me in would be appreciated. Below are my impressions of the HP50 if that lends any perspective to my tastes. Thanks man!

It's been a while...glad to see you around.

Sorry the HP50s didn't do it for you. I really like the P7s as well, but I found them a tad too coloured in comparison. Both are in the top 3 here to my ears. I owned the Momentum's twice, but they're treble/upper mids were too far pushed back to my liking. When I listened to Miles Davis, it put him behind the drums.

I'm not a fan of the K550 either. I really liked the PSBs but they were too big and clunking for me and as I was looking for portability I sold them. I haven't heard the new Shure SRH1540s...they are quite intriguing, but like the PSBs, they look pretty big. Hard to say.

Thanks.  The UE 6000 are only $5 more so I might look into those with the active noise cancelling.  The Zoro look like Beats and I'm not a fan.  And the Jabra are in ear and I'm looking for on ear/over ear, sorry I didn't make that clear.  But thanks for the UE6000 suggestion

Thanks! Agreed on the AKG's, not a big fan of the closed cans I've heard from them, vocalist sounds as if they are backstage! I went into Best Buy tonight and listened to the P7's some more as well as some HD380's, K550, K545, PSB, and whichever the on-ear version of the Momentum is called. The PSB had a left driver out so very hard to draw any solid opinions but from what I could tell a very similar signature to the HP50.

You are very right about the P7's, something very strident in the upper kids but it is not always present. When it does rear it's ugly head thought it's a bit cringe worthy. Not sure what's going on there but otherwise I found them to isolate very well, and sound pretty fun being just north of neutral. The on ear Momentums actually sounded great too but leaked way too much sound for my quite office environment.

At this point I think I'll either go with the P7 and suffer the strident upper mid or go back to the 940's but put the 1540 alcantara pads on them which will improve the low end and mellow out the highs. Less portable than the P7 but half the cost.... decisions decisions

Additionally the Yamaha HBH-MT220, while potentially less portable than others on the list has had few yet favorable reviews sufficient to elevate my interest and intrigue at a $200ish price point. If someone here has a pair willing to lend our OP it would be well added value to the thread.

Have you consider the Sony 7520? You mentioned it's for your office use so maybe they will be portable enough for you.

Not a big fan of the Sony house sound usually and I did look at those but read some comments about their character in their thread that put me off. Mostly like the p7 from what I ah e demoed so far so will probably go with that.

Yesterday I auditioned the Denon AHD-340 for the first time.
You might be wondering why I'm mentioning it in this thread, but if anyone is crazy enough to wear one of these in public (because they look hilarious) the sound per $ is pretty damn good.
The price in Europe has dropped massively down to around $125.
In the SQ ranking on Page 1 - I would put these just under the Sony MDR-1R.

Unfortunately the build quality would probably only get a 2 or 3 out of 5. They feel a bit cheap and flimsy, but as a result are really very lightweight and quite comfy.
The bass was just about as deep and present as the P7, but doesn't bleed like other Denon models. I even preferred the midrange tonality in the sound of these more than the P7.

I picked up the P7 and burned them in overnight. Sounds about like what I remember in the best buy I demoed them in which is a solid, enjoyable sound. The issue I am having with them and may be a cause for a return is the vocals. They just sound too removed for my tastes.

I prefer a more front row vocal presentation so I'm not sure where to go next, maybe PSB? I'm going to mess with the eq a bit and see what I can do. Does anyone know if the Apple stores have the m500 on display?
