My issue with the Momentums is two fold:

1.) The carrying case is freakin' huge! I can't even store it in the pouch in front of me on a plane...not very portable.
2.) The treble is way too far rolled off. I couldn't stand listening to Miles Davis playing from behind the drummer.

Want to know something weird? I tried my friend's Momentum and it sounded fantastic. Actually better than the P7 in my opinion, with tighter bass and better balance throughout the midrange. Good treble presence too, very natural. Not quite the detail of the P7 but overall it really surprised me.

Then I tried another Momentum in the Apple Store very recently and it was the same ol' Momentum sound I remembered from my pair. Quite veiled sounding and a bit loose in the bass.

I wonder, are there different units out there??

I think there are. That's what I encountered.

Were you using the same source material and components?

Interesting, perhaps that is what I experienced at the audio shop where I had the Momentum demo. I can tell you what I heard through my rig was a very boring headphone, quite flat and un-engaging. To my ears it sounded like a first generation Beats by Dr Dre if you can believe it. I was shocked as I went in seriously considering the Momentum to replace my too large for portable HP 50.

I love the Momentum over ear so much, I bought three of them! If they had it in a fourth color, I probably would've purchased that one too. They share a similar house sound to the HD 650.

I also like my Noontec Zoro HD headphones, I keep them with me in the car. They are flat. With slightly rolled off treble. They can sound a little rough at the highest volumes, but at normal sound, they're really good, especially at how cheap they are selling these days.

The same goes for the MEelectronics Atlas. It's more comfortable than the Zoro, but it is a little more U-shaped, kind of like a baby P7

Almost forgot, you will want to use the Momentum over ear with the audiophile cable, not the one with the microphone. At least to my ears, the cable with the microphone does not sound as good. I don't know why..... Anyone else feel the same way? It might be my imagination.

I've personally owned 2 pair (brown and black/red) and heard 2 others...they all sounded the exact same FWIW. I really like the Momentums, but as I noted, they had 2 major issues that explain why I no longer own them.

I have only owned one pair....it was a veiled mid and lack of lively treble that killed me. Also, to my recollection they were very uncomfortable and not as portable as I would have liked.

I agree with your lack of lively treble...but they were very comfortable with my noggin'.

i personally did not feel this way, i liked the sound coming from both the remote and the pure audio cable (used them both at home and on the go, liked it for both), especially if your on the go, which these headphones were intended for, you won't notice this during the subway or bus ride

heres my review on these great looking and great sounding cans, as stated in the video i would like a bit more sparkle and a more emphasized treble, its a bit laid back for me for some genres and female vocals sounded a bit distant but all in all a non-fatiguing package you can use on the go and as sit down and enjoy package

Ya. More comfortable, 10percent less emphasis on lows, 20percent more mids, same treble. I sold my m100, but would buy n XL for sure if they addressed those issues.

Either way, the m100 and the amperior/hd25 aluminum, both sound alot clearer and less vieled than the momentum. I hated the momentum, and i cant imagine how they can charge so much money for that sound. The sennheiser veil is there, its like the hd280 with a really nice design and build for yuppies. Its balanced ya, but there are much better balanced headphones for half the price or a lil more. Furthermore there are some sonys under 100$ that are more hifi than the momentums. And the on ear version is absolute crap. I love sennheisers, but not the momentum, or hd280.
