AKG new headphone K545?

Alright, ive decided to buy these. If they're better than the ATH WS99, and M500, I'll be spreading thr hype all throughout headfi.

Congrats! They'll be better than the WS99's I bet, but probably on par with the M500's (and preferences will then come into play).

Congrats on the decision. I do agree with waynes world that these are on par with the M500 so it does come down to preference. I think you will enjoy the heck out of these though.

I think that he will also. So time to get the Trunks159 hype machine warmed up! :)

Mumford and Sons sounded very good tonight showing that the K545 can handle busier songs without any issues.

While I stand by my review I have to admit I like these more than my review indicates. I have taken the time to try two of the other new portable newcomers that are getting a lot of attention (B&O H6 and B&W P7) and feel the K545 offers a cleaner more audiophile type sound while being more affordable. The only headphone I have not heard that is new that is getting a lot of attention is the NAD VISO HP50 and honestly I have a hard time imagining it outperforming the K545, hopefully I will have a chance to hear a pair at some point to find out first hand. I guess my point is the K545 deserves the same amount of attention as these other headphones in my opinion, if not more. The good news is a few more people are getting these and hopefully they will share my enthusiasm for the K545. If not I will still enjoy seeing more discussion.

I think that they are probably a steal at $200. Having said that, I personally can't spend much on anything else at the moment (just bucked up for some M200's - should have got yours a while back lol!). Then again, if the 545's go on sale for even less, my resistance might become futile. Here's looking towards Black Friday!

Right, I forgot Black Friday was coming up! That might explain the lack of interest the past week or two :). I'm going to stop worrying about it then.

250 is a good reachable price. That is one of the best things about the k545 I would like to hear them myself. I don't regret not getting though as this yamaha hph mt220 and the sony mdr 7520 are amazing hp's too. I would like to hear a comparison.

I had the 7520 at one point returning them in favour of the SRH940. At the time I was blown away by the 940's detail and soundstage. The 7520 on the other hand had tremendous bass presence and warm mids with a euphoric sound. The K545 straddles the two headphones having most of the good characteristics of both phones but never completely, offering a strong musical experience while retaining great detail and sound stage.

Strong praise for very interesting phones, single voiced but hope it's just a matter of time.
K271S with Dog Pads are still one of my favorite closed, outlived Mad Dog in fact, but they have been instant classic.

Single voice, but the force is strong in that one lol! And yes, sometimes it takes time... look at the Yamaha hph-200's that are just now getting attention on the discovery thread.

How does the k240 sextett compare with the k271s?

yeah that would definitely show a difference in tastes. I can't equate treble quantity to detail(not saying you are) but I would say that the 7520 has as much details. I hate the dry, rolled off, lifeless, shure. The 7520 is slightly south of neutral with great bass.
Would you say the bass is almost as strong as the 7520?

You know you have found the right headphone when your suddenly no longer looking for a new headphone and buying new music or listening to your collection with renewed vigor :). In my case I have bought or repurchased 5 albums in the past 2 weeks LOL.

Latest album, Fleetwood Mac - Rumours... from HD Tracks in 96/24 FLAC format

I am in the exact same position that you were in and I am hoping these AKG's will let me ignore Head-fi for a little while and get back to some serious music listening.  Did you buy yours in Canada?

I would hate to rely on 2 year old memories to compare the bass in to much detail. I think the K545 might go slightly deeper but the 7520 has more bass presence as a whole.

I will see if I can do a quick A/B test at a local store.

I was fortunate to be selected to review these by AKG and subsequently allowed to keep them.

I suggest using RazorDog Audio as they sell to Canadians and you will get a $25 discount (shipping won't be free though). If you want to stay strictly in Canada I would check with Headphone Bar to see if they have the K545 available yet.
