Do custom IEMs typically have a better "turn-out" than universals that are remolded? I am looking in the $300ish and below area at custom IEMs but all I can get is a dual driver custom at best. So would it be better to try and score a deal on like some Westone UM3Xs so I can get triple armature drivers? Also, do you guys think there would be any substantial difference between the different companies offering remolds other than, maybe, quality a little? I am looking at InEarz because they are affordable and seem well reviewed. Finally, if I get customs or universals remolded am I guaranteed significantly better isolation (I would assume so) because the ear is sealed off?

Thanks a lot

I say with a $300 budget, just go for universals. Some universals, like Shure and etymotic actually have better isolation than customs. Also, it's not really worth it to reshell those universals. You could get custom ear tips, if you really want more isolation.

Like custom ear covers? I heard they change the soundstage, etc. and are not preferable. Anyways, I want to score a deal on some more expensive Shures, Westones, or Ultimate Ears for less than $200 than another $100 or so for the remold and I seemingly would have quality customs.

I say reshelling a universal is not worth it, unless they are top tier like W4, IE800, K3003, etc. Trust me, there is a reason people buy customs, and not buy universals to reshell them.

Hello!

My idea is to get a universal IEM that you love it over the higher-ends ones(it is possible). Then reshell it if you wanted.

Wow! Never heard of custom ear-tips... Is it expensive? Like 100

I have been considering the XBA-4 actually. I would be using it with their (Sony's) Walkman F. How do you like it, does it have good highs and lows?

Thanks those might be the ones, they are certainly affordable unlike the 4 driver Westones.

However, I find the W4 to be much better in quality.

more or less similar to others' opinion but not in the bass department. The bass offer the right amount when paired with iPhone 4 but crazily huge with iClassic 80 GB. The bass is very untidy with iClassic but tight and deep with iPhone 4. As for mids, I use Denon Club [app] to boost it a little to make it to my liking. The highs are a bit mellowish. All I can tell is that the vocals don't sound good with these but instruments...AWESOME XD

XBA-4 can be very unforgiving to me. MP3 sound harsh and lack of details but ALAC...EHEHEHEHE... soundstage is good but imaging like typical IEMs

OK. There are few decent options. But you are probably limited to 2 or 3 driver ciems.(Not that I have anything against having few drivers) Look at some smaller companies, like cosmic ear, stage 94... Most big companies like UE, JH, UM doesn't really have good options for cheaper ciems.
