Can your supplier "screw up" so we have another batch of black schitt for rag/yggy?! Can I even dream?

Despite people constantly asking for them, I don't think they actually sold that well...

For me, the anodized aluminum look is great for my headphone ring since that's in my office.  But if I wanted to integrate a Schiit product into my main 2-channel system or my HT, it would have to be black or it would stick out like a sore thumb.  That's why I'm thinking the Yggdrasil and  Ragnarok products might sell in black: they are higher end and could work well in a non-headphone oriented system.  Indeed, I intend to compare the Yggdrasil to my main system DACs... but in clear anodized aluminum I'll have to hide it or paint it to leave it there.

DING DING DING DING!

Kinda like DSD. A lot of noise, no action.

I guarantee you that if we had our products available in 5 colors with 40 options, we'd get requests for 7 colors and 50 options.

Ask Apple about a black Macbook Pro. Or a silver Apple TV.

Understood.  What about as an extra-cost (and delayed delivery time) option?

Ask Apple about an extra cost and delayed-time delivery option for a black Macbook Pro or a custom red iPhone. After all, they have hundreds of billions in the bank and a worldwide production system second to none.

SO... what if I wanted to buy just some sheet metal from you so I can send it to a shop to be stripped and black anodized?

I'll go back to the Apple example--ask them about buying just a MBP aluminum shell, unfinished, so you can have it custom-anodized and then assemble it yourself (with all the vagaries of sealing/thermal transfer/etc in a modern laptop.)

a. Do you believe they'll sell you unfinished metal?
b. Do you believe you'll be able to assemble a working product?
c. Do you think they'd honor any warranty?

Sending something of their complexity out for disassembly, colorization, and reassembly is a massively bad idea (the joggle machining on the bottom chassis requires metal-to-metal contact, and a specific thermal grease, and there are 14 devices bolted to the chassis, with specific insulators, for heatsinking.) And, of course, the warranty would be void.

Sorry to be flip, but Ragnarok and Yggdrasil are planned in one color, as with all of our stuff going forward. If that doesn't work for you, I completely understand.

Any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants so long as it is black.

Oh it'll work for me, no worries.  Actually one of the reasons why I like working for small companies is precisely because they are not Apple.  (I actually did work for Apple in 1984 for a hot minute.  Even then the idea of "custom" anything was anathema to them.)  My company makes literally dozens of "knock offs" of some of our products to suit the needs of individual customers... but it's not a consumer retail business and our customers buy in the hundreds of units, not one at a time.  So I do understand and support your position.  Just exploring options... so the answer is no I guess, you'll have no spare sheet metal tops I can buy?

You could probably just mask and spray paint it yourself

(although that would probably mess up the heat sinking...)

A monochromatic rig is boring.

You need anodized aluminum to give your basic black components a frisson of swankiness.

Lol I knew it's not even a dream..! guess I do understand Jason and team's position on this... and it would really take the vendor, or alex, or someone to really screw up again so see them in black!   well Jack (amongst others) do offer their amps in both silver and black and seems to be selling both reasonably well... just sayin...  but guess it's moot!

let's get back to R2R or whatever discussions we were on before....

Is it too late to ask for changes? I'd like the Rag to come with a built-in cigarette lighter, like in my Cadillac. Maybe an ashtray too. Nothing better than to have a good cigar while listening to my LCD-3s.
