Thank you, that was very helpful! Build quality is a definite concern, and I don't mind shelling out more for it, so I'll probably look harder at the IM70. The only downside I keep reading about the IM70 is that the top-end is a bit rolled-off and doesn't really extend all that far.

While I have your attention, do you have any recommendations for an IEM that's largely neutral (especially in the mids and treble), but with a modest bass lift to help bass instruments sound more natural, excellent detail retrieval, good isolation and good build quality?

I would say that the IM70 is exactly what you are looking for.   The top-end, to my ears, is not rolled-off.

You could try the Ostry KC06.  That one falls in the same "fun" category as the Tenore....but with a much better build quality.

Thanks, that sounds good. I am quite intrigued by the IM70, but I'm mostly concerned that it might be a bit TOO bass-heavy for my generally neutral tastes, and that the top-end might be too laid-back. I should clarify though, that my definition of neutral is how my studio monitors and headphones sound, which while definitely neutral, never lack realistic body, weight and fullness in the low-end. 'Neutral' IEMs, in my experience so far, do not fulfill this. Hence the desire for a 'gentle' bass boost in the signature.

+1 on the Ostry. The Tenore would be great if you could get a known good pair, which is a long shot.

Then there's the dreaded ear of the beholder factor.

at the moment i am in between of buying vsonic gr07 mkII and zero audio tenore. i'm still not decided which is better. one guy on youtube said they are better than etymotic er4s
here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbd1V_cOm2A
and lachlanlikesathing on youtube likes gro7 as favorite earphones. so which do you think are the best of them? in terms of build quality zero audio is not that good as i can see but i am sure i can put sellotape on the ends or a shrink tube to strain relieve at the earphones where cable goes on earphones. may be there are better earphones than those two? but vsonic earphones get pretty good reviews on the internet. people seem to be happy with them and build quality is excellent.

After using them for 6 weeks, no TTS yet, my best tips are Sony Hybrid clones from Vsonic because I can choose between 7 size, Meelec DF are not bad either. I need a normal insertion, deeper I have reverb and crappy bass and shallower I loose the sub-bass.

what is tts?

Hmm...I think that for your collection the Tenore would be better (more bass), but the GR07 is also very capable with electronic\pop\hip-hop.

I usually use the Tenore for electronic music and the GR07 for jazz,  classical and acoustic music.

The GR07 is the better headphone...the Tenore is more fun.   The GR07s build quality is good...the Tenore could break on you after a month.
