Will using a 1/4 inch jack to 3.5mm  smaller jack along with a 3 meter exsention cable effect the SQ of my ultrasone pro 900's? The stock cable is one of thoose spiral round ones and keeps getting tangled up which is pretty anoying.

A mechanical connection never provides an ideal electrical path so there is always some negative impact on sound. The fewer connections you have, the better.

This is a real issue for FM antennas but here if you don't notice a difference and the solution is more convenient, go for it.

There will always be some degradation of sound quality from every additional connection.  In this case, speaking from experience, the reduction will be so small as to be insignificant.  But, rather than take our word for it, and given the small outlay in funds to get the adapter, why don't you just go get one and try it for yourself.

Are you using an old version of windows e.g XP? Since Vista and 7 (i don't use 8) I have found the Microsoft Audio architecture to be fine.... especially with WASAPI.
Also I always thought that ASIO was only beneficial for recording latency issues?
