[REVIEW] Aurisonics ASG-2 & 2.5 (with many comparisons)
Aug 21, 2013 at 2:30 AM Post #3,061 of 7,021
Hmm guessing pulling it back on track a bit. I had some impressions after a meet I attended a week ago.

For vocals... smooth and lustiness I preferred it in this order

TG334>1P2>K3003

I wonder how the ASG2 would fit in this list. In between the 334 and the 1P2? If we're just looking at vocal smoothness/detail balance.

That didn't work when I was 8 and my parents said it Christmas morning and it won't work now.

lol I remember my parents saying that to me as well. Appreciate what you have. The thrill of opening up those gifts was always something else though. I use to be so bad I'd sneak and open up some gifts and wrap them again as if they were never touched....

My pref is 1p2(on gold/silver) > tg334(on twag v3) > re600 > w4(on mh spc) > asg2 (on UE custom stock) for vocal smoothness/detail balance.

Have you guys tried the F111? I'm curious as to how you'd rate it against the others. Also, it'd be awesome if eke could get a K3003 comparison in the mix...

curiously i nearly forgot to mention physical and fit aspects of ASG2, indeed i primarily concentrated on music and that small thing escaped my attention.

Package as sent by Eke looked simple and good: nice plastic case having rubberized top and bottom, actually ASG box is larger in size than what i am used to but is good and comfortable (also relatively thin). i assume you can use the box to stock your ASG and perhaps a small DAP or thin amp. inside the box i found stock cable, a set of various tips (not sure what tips Eke included), a small screwdriver for adjusting bass ports. that was it. I am not sure what was missing from the original package, perhaps the jack adapter, warranty, that's it?

ASG-2 quality itself was pretty good, shells are made of sturdy plastic (acrylic? i am not sure) and are well rounded, no small bits or pieces sticking out, simply silky smooth. despite build quality inspires confidence i would not be willing to try them in crash tests. besides one must care about pins which protrude a bit deeper than would be normal Westone type. Westone recessed cables will pass but will seat less stiff and can disconnect more easily. i think those who have ASG2 understand what i mean.

Black painted version i did not like at all, Eke told me wearing off paint spots were the result of some accidents, still i assume that should not have happened to good paint. More so i was wondering why people would want black or stealth version when white frost with red logo would look the coolest almost like mystifying version? If i will buy ASG-2 this will be white frost version with red logo for sure. Black i leave for ''men in black''

Fit was very good, i did not have any issues here and achieved good seal with enclosed tips. i could find passing for me tips easily too, thanks Eke. Wearing comfort was really good, no issues for me. i did not try them on the go but i assume these are not for doing active sports during listen. still i repeat, i did not try it and perhaps Eke will disagree with me here.

What else? Ah, cable. Cable felt pretty generic, nothing special to talk about. It did not inspire much confidence in me. What was good the cable was very flexible, so flexible that you will not have any problems wearing it on the go, splitter was fixed and i noticed nearly no microphonic issues. The build quality was Ok but not on par with IEM itself.

Basically that's it.

Since G mentioned looks, let me post more eye candies:

Frost or Stealth really don't do them justice!

:D

Imperfections aside, I really liked the matte black finish. Like someone else said, it looks more "stealth" now that they removed Mr. Fingerprints. I wish more electronics would follow suit.

I was also going to correct some stuff people mentioned but that would provably get skimmed over as well... I'll just let it go.

that's just me and i prefer white frost version, i am not a sucker for stealth finish or black glossy faceplates.

all in all the ASG-2 looks will not impress girls around you, i found IEM is rather minimalistic industrial looking to me. frankly speaking i do not care much for the looks unless the design is very ugly.

Unity, why not? we talk ASG2 and if you have something to say why not?

i am still curious what particularly you did not like about sound. i mean if you can split your impressions into particularls so i could understand it better. all i can see now is ASG2 is not everyone's cup of tea but it will leave no indifferent people, you either like it or hate it, there is no middle ground with this IEM. i personally liked them a lot, H20 is still on the mission and from what i am reading H20 loves them too

Spoiler 2, my impressions will provably still suck...

I'm guessing you are gonna exchange your unit out? If something is indeed wrong with the pair you have as the graphs indicate it's worth a shot if Dale is willing to accommodate you.
