[REVIEW] Aurisonics ASG-2 & 2.5 (with many comparisons)

I have a 75 ohm adapter & used it with the AS-2 (and Meier Quickstep amp) earlier tonight.  The results were not pleasing: a very forward midbass/lower midrange w/ a slightly recessed treble.  In other words.. say goodbye to the AS-2 balance.  Interestingly enough, the 'forward' frequency ranges remained surprisingly tight.  It was listenable, but I can't imagine anyone who'd prefer this sound to the sound of, well, the proper AS-2.  I asked Dale about the impedance characteristic of the AS-2 quite some time back.. he said it remains quite linear (at ~34 ohms) from end to end.

AS-2 means ASG-2 or

Any/all my impressions on this thread are with the AS-2.. I don't have the ASG-2.  Though, I think it's safe to assume the ASG-2 is tuned to sound (as) close (as possible) to the AS-2.. so using an impedance adapter with the ASG-2 should yield similar results to what I heard with the AS-2/impedance adapter.

At the same time, I get the sense the ASG-2 might be a slightly bassier than the AS-2 (w/ the bass ports being completely closed on both)... I just get that vibe reading many of the ASG-2 impressions... but what's bassy & what isn't is quite relative, too.  All the variables associated with a universal (vs custom) fit might account for this difference, too (i.e. tip choice, insertion depth, etc).

+1, i find goldsilver more transparent and pleasingly mellower, old silver cable is more thick and rough sounding but is also more big and bassy (if bassheads care for this) :-D

i prefer gold silver for sure but i had no chance to try new silver only cable :frowning2:

Hi Gintaras,

I have the new version of the Tralucent Silver cable and it earned my preference over the loaner Gold/Silver.  Apparently your impressions and mine are the results of mix and match and in my case the Tera goes well with Silver+1Plus2.

I'll pick up the Uber next week and will report back the impressions.

Cheers

I compared the new silver/gold and the original stock silver when I had the demo pair. My own pair has the new stock silver, while I wasn't able to compare it directly to the new silver/gold I do have still have the original stock silver here for a frame of reference. In my opinion the new stock silver has performance between the original stock silver and the new silver/gold. The new stock silver isn't quite as thick in the bottom as the original stock silver and overall has a more refined sound. My feeling is the new stock silver actually leans more to towards the performance of the silver/gold than the original silver/gold and it has similar ergonomics as the new silver/gold but that's just my impression as I wasn't able to compare them side by side.

sounds like what i would expect from new cable. still old silver can be fun but ergonomics are not great, new silver which looks most like goldsilver optically speaking must be much more convinient.

no surprise, seems new silver is sure an upgrade over the old one and----, wow., Uber cable (why Uber, this is German word Über?) ... damn expensive for me but will be glad to hear your impressions from it compared to goldsilver or silver. i for a while will stay with goldsilver which i find great for me.

Well that's disappointing.

In German, über is used as a prefix as well as a word in its own right. Both uses indicate a state or action involving increased elevation or quantity in the physical sense, or superiority or excess in the abstract

how mush is that 1Plus2 cable?

Just keep walking.

Well, your experience with added impedance indicates that it's not linear.

Also, 75 ohms seem way too much to emulate a cable swap.

I always suspected the impedance characteristics weren't exactly linear on the ASG-1 from my testing but the general linearity of dynamics makes me think I'm nuts lol. Maybe it's the same with the G-2, and then add the BAs.

living in Austria i know what it means.... but i was surprised to see a company in HK using German word :-D

If bass increases with impedance, and silver has less impedance than copper, it makes sense that the silver cable would have less bass.

If there is any differences in the impedance of the different cables, (and that's a big if) then it is likely to be maybe 1 ohm or less. In Tyll's cable test it yielded zero FR change, yet he heard differences in cables. Perhaps this is just an area that science has yet to figure out.
