You didn't like the t50rp?

Dunno if that is a good idea. What exactly do you expect from them? Again, what is it that you listen to?

IIRC, R&B, reggae.

Love the HE500 but not for those genres. Not enough punchy mid-bass. Skip the HE500 and just get an LCD2. The first revision especially will give you more mid and bass quantity and sometimes found a lot cheaper used than the second revision.

I think it was you that recommended both the he-500 and lcd2. I can drive both fine and for now I am okay with what I have. I just want more extension on both ends. I really like the hd650 mids. I have been listening to a lot of different music styles lately. But like Drheadphone said those are my main genres.

Here are some examples. I didnt mean to open a new can of worms here. People told me that the hd650 would be boring and I dont think so at all. I find the x1 more boring. Just because something has bass doesnt make it engaging to me. Its the sound as a whole. However the modded t50rp is missing the midbass of the hd650. So far the hd650 is the closest to what I am looking for minus a little seperation and bass extension. It's bass pressence is fine for me.

(these are the styles but with wav files)

If I could take a German maestro 8.35d and give it a touch of air and an open sound and just a hair more details I would have the perfect hp for me. Its dark, forward, reaches really low but not bass emphasised. When bass boosted it can thump on songs it needs to without drowning the mids. But can be sibilant at times.

I guess I should skip the he-500 if the mid bass isnt there. I would just keep the hd650 then.

Why can't i just go somewhere in Portland OR and hear them!

Thanks for the advice on the revision 1's. The t50 mod I have is tuned to sound like the he-500 actually. It's bass is there but not that good for hip hop etc. I still really like it as a headphone though. But yeah if what I getting from selling the hd650 in buying the he-500 was the same tonal balance then maybe you guys are right.
If i can't find them at a good price Ill prob keep the hd650 and just get the germans again(martyred for an amp)

I just gave up on the rev1 because I heard the rev2's were a lot better. Then everything I found selling in my price range disappeared.

Either revision of the LCD2 would be fine for your musical preference. I just prefer the Rev 1 for its slightly more intimate mids. The Rev 2's improves the soundstaging a bit. Either way, the SQ is high on both and the differences are really negligible for the type music you listen to. It doesn't hurt that the Rev 1 is usually sold cheaper in the S/T forum. Just keep an eye out.

The HD650 is a fine go-to headphone. The next logical step up is the LCD2 but enjoy the HD650 knowing it is only half the LCD cost. Lol!

I doubt you will miss out in the bass department with the HE-500. How did you find the 400's bass? Cuz the 500 bass is almost as prominent... Especially when you have the emotiva, it is said to get super powers

I think you should wait for a good offer to appear on something that seems appealing. I tend not to buy gear at full prices at any time unless it is something that I really want. Be open, be aware.

Actually, I'm not sure the 500 is up ur alley. I think you might want more aggressive and prominent mids than they deliver.

I found the he-400's bass sufficient. It was better than the hd650 imho. The mids of the hd650 I know are going to be a hard find. But if they are as good as the t50rp I would be okay. But I think overall the he500 may leave me in want at times. So you are right!

Ideal situation would be to buy the bamboo lcd2 rev2 brand new and call it a day(just because I love the feeling of new products) But I am a bit aways from that being reality at this point.

No hurry :p
When you aren't looking for something specific, irresistible offers will pop up now and then.
