Got one for $200 and it arrived today. Initial impressions are good, surprisingly light and build quality is very minimalistic as people have said. Comfort is really impressive (most important thing to me above all else) but kinda different from other headphones. This one feels like nothing is there while other comfortable headphones I've tried feels like soft pillows wrapped around your head (velour is amazing) Two different feelings IMO, I'm not sure if one is better than the other. I can't comment on audio quality since I'm no audiophile and these are the most expensive headphones I've ever bought, but I can tell its quite a step up from my Logitech G930s. Overall, huge thumbs up, very happy with my purchase.

Yeah, comfort is so odd, since unlike most comfy headphones that feel nice on the head, the MA900 is almost like there's nothing there. You get a sensation where the pads rest on the head, but its overall almost like some phantom feel.

With more use, even the feeling of the ears lightly touching the padding has all but disappeared.

Thanks! I think I was pretty lucky when I stumbled upon the MA900 while researching. It deserves a lot more love, especially for those who wear headphones hours at a time.

They just arrived and first impressions are wow they look smaller then what the pictures made me think and the gold pouch is thinner then I thought it would be also. The cloth earpads are a bit itchy but I imagine I will get used to that. Other then the itchy earpads, wow these are comfortable, that itchyness is the only thing causing me to even realize they are on my head at all. The build doesn't bother me, it feels sturdy enough. The whole soundstage thing is what confuses me though. I am just listening to some flac music files on Jriver and I don't really notice an out of my head experience much. I guess I expected too much in terms of what a large soundstage would be. They do sound really nice though and the bass does not disappoint.

Its really easy to hear in comparison to other headphones, like the HD598, or closed cans in general.

Well I am starting to notice a bit wider sound but I think my ears just need to get used to it to really hear it well. I've never used an open back headphone or a closed back with a good soundstage before.
 
The biggest difference I notice compared to the ATH-M50 so far is the comfort which is actually quite funny. I never had a problem with the ATH-M50 other then it getting a little hot but now after using the Ma900 as soon as I put ATH-M50 back on it feels as if the earpads on them are squeezing my ears. I honestly never noticed it until after using the Ma900 lol.

I am getting paranoid about fake headphones and the box for mine is slightly different then the one in HiFiguy's unboxing video but that could possibly be because I ordered them from Japan so there packaging is slightly different or later date could mean different box. The picture the seller posted is what my box looks like. The headphones themselves look real. I don't think my headphones are fake but if there is any way to confirm it that would be nice.

Soundstage is very dependent on the recording...

Anytime you go up in fidelity, you don't really notice as much until you go back down. For example, the jump from SVHS to DVD was noticeable, but not that much better. Once you watch DVD for several months, if you go back to SVHS it looks absolutely horrible. Same happens with the jump from DVD to HD.
 
This will happen to you with audio. You might not notice it much now, but use the Sony's for a few weeks, and then listen to the same music on the M50's, and it will be much clearer the difference then you are getting now.
