AKG K 240 vs Audio Technica ATH-M50 (or are there better options?)

E11 has a built in dac, it works better as a portable amp with iPods, but the E07k is definitely the better choice if you are using it exclusively with a computer as it is a USB dac/amp

both would more than power k240s

Not exclusively for my computer. For my computer and my iPod.

Then the E11 is your best choice, you can still plug an E11 into a computer, but you can't plug an iPod into an e07k as well

So you can't plug both of them into each other at the same time, but you can plug one into the other. Right? In which case the e07k is still the way to go, because I have music on my computer too. Unless I'm completely missing your point...

No, I'm saying the E11 works with both a computer and an iPod and is portable, while the E07k only works with a computer and is stationary

This is pretty helpful to know lol. A mistake like getting the E07k could have royally ruined my day. Thanks.

No problem, I mean I'm sure there's a way out there to connect the E07k to an iPod, but to my knowlege it doesn't work as well as the E11 and it's impractical because it's much less portable

I suggest you start with the JVC HA-S400 for only $25-30 available in the US.

I have a pair of K240 MKII's and I'm loving em, can't go wrong with these.
Please do consider getting the velour pads; they can make a world of difference in comfort (leather(?) pads get sweaty after a few hours).

From my experience the K240s are much better to the M50s. I have some M50s and I am relatively small and I find them uncomfortable, with an annoying over abundance of bass as well.

The fiio amps are pretty good considering their price. I wouldn't be for sure but I think you can connect the E07k to an iPod with a fiio L3 line out? Anyways, I think you will be happy with any of the fiio amps.

I'm thinking the 240s are going to be my saving grace. I'm returning the Sennheiser amperior Headphones I was meaning to use for all-purpose because of the lack of sound stage, aggressive treble veiling the weak mid section in black metal songs, and being too uncomfortable/painful to wear. I imagine myself actually loving the 240. If it's true what they say that expensive headphones makes music sound worse, then this is probably just what I need. I hope it meets all my criteria.

That depends on recordings and setup, although I think you'll really enjoy the k240s

Errr, this is wrong. The E11 is NOT a stationary amp, as it doesn't have a built in DAC and can't be used while connected to a computer. I hope you didn't order it for this purpose alone, Hifi Man. Check out the E10, it's a good match with the K240s. It's a bit more powerful and also has a DAC. Not portable though.

Hi! I know this post is old, but I'm wondering about getting the K 240s also. I too listen to A LOT of metal music (deathcore, death metal, slam etc). How do you ( or did you) like the 240s? I think I'm going to get them!! Thanks :)
