Wow that's pretty affordable. Hard pressed to find a player in that league at that price.
buy a 2nd hand x3 and wait for x5
Flaw in plan there. Used X3's seem to be rare as hens teeth.
Here you go. Brand new in sealed packaging, below retail, and in Canada. What more could you ask for.

The FAQ in the first post suggests a price of around 400 dollars. IIRC, the X5 is supposed to be comparable to other high resolution players like the AK100, the DX100, etc.
wasn't the X3 already comparable to the AK100? or am i mistaken?

There are headfiers who choose X3 over AK100, yes. Many people also said their sound qualities are comparable. However the prices are not
When I purchased my X3 I was able to do a direct comparison with it and the AK100 as the dealer carried both. This was with identical files on a pair of RE-400's. The comparison was short, so far from definitive but I felt that the AK100 did sound slightly better overall than the X3, but of course this is such a subjective thing. To me the AK100 sounded a little more refined, a little more detailed although I did find the X3 outdid it in dynamics and bass response on the few files I was able to listen to. The difference was far from huge however and not justifiable of the cost difference of the two products in my opinion. Others mileage may vary.
