The Fiio X5 Thread

I'll admit that I don't have a very ideal setup right now for listening/transferring music..all my music is currently stored on a 1 TB WD My Passport, and my personal computer is a Macbook Pro which I haven't found good software for checking songs/check SD card with. My Windows 7 desktop is back in my college town which I'm away from this summer. I've been using my work computer to run checks in the background and on top of all that I cannot for the life of me get Windows 7 installed in boot camp on my Macbook, which I'm thinking perhaps might be because I'm using an USB 3.0 drive to install the .iso. Just not the best week for techology with me :/.

BaerGriggs,

Do you have all tracks neatly tagged?

Album art no larger as 1000x1000?

Maybe try copying the files with a usb cardreader?

I think I may have a broken device when I connect it to my computer it charges but i can't use it as a DAC or for file transfer

To use as a DAC you need the drivers from FiiO website. There's also a "switch" in the settings to use as a DAC OR storage but not both at the same time (obviously)

I am a novice but I have been reading this thread for quite some time and think I learned a few things.  This DAP has a decent internal amp.  I don't think you will get full SQ using this with your HD600 but I definitely plan to get an external amp for home use.  I decided to invest in the Fostex TH900 so I could get by until I can afford a Bakoon or Hugo.

As for travelling and being mobile I don't know many people who will use full size cans. Maybe consider for portable use easy to drive IEM's?

To each their own so, I am told (by this thread) the Fiio E12 is a good option for a portable amp for this and they are making some clips so it stacks well and looks great together.  I think Fiio said these can be purchased together about 30 days after the initial international release or something like that.  I read that it may have a bit of a different sound signature which is good and bad depending on your preferences.

I'll stick to the smaller artwork since I'd rather have more processing power/memory for the music files, just in case . Good to know though.
