I actually would like a set of SZ stock pads if anyone doesn't mind giving away a set

For some reason I am unable to see how to PM you - if you send me a PM, I can send you mine.  I don't think I'll be getting rid of these headphones anytime soon (famous last words?)

Edit: All in all, I'd say EasyQ has the best combination of no cost, good features, and ease of use. You can download it here: http://rs-met.com/freebies.html

I tried to install a 3rd party driver compilation for my long discontinued and not supported Audigy 2 ZS since it originally came with an equalizer, but it just doesn't work on win 10 anymore so I settled on EasyQ. Do you happen to have a saved preset you like to use and could share? I'm having fun dragging dots and making funky sounds but I literally have no idea what I'm doing.

Did you see that EasyQ has some preloaded EQ?  Good place to start, and then you can modify them as you like, and save them.

Unfortunately, my EQ settings are for the SZ2000 and Mojo. It would sound different with different equipment. Plus it would distort badly without a good amp.

I would recommend boosting the sub-bass by whichever amount sounds good to you, perhaps cutting down some of the upper bass, then adjusting the upper frequencies until it sounds natural enough.

When using an amp, don't forget to reduce the gain in your player by at least the amount of your largest EQ cut/boost.

Here is an example of what one of my EQ settings looks like. This one is still merely a starting point for me, with basshead and audiophile leanings.

This is where I got my EQ settings set for my JVC 1000's. Mind you the output level which is my gain, is barely showing in the picture at the very right, and I got it turned all the way down as far as it can go. These are actually extreme adjustments for the JVC 1000's, meaning they can barely take this level of adjustment. For good all around listening, you want both the sub base and the highs to be razed quite a bit. I left the mids flat as you can see, and I can hear them just fine in most things. I've been told that the JVC 2000's can take even more adjustment without distortion, but they also require a more powerful amp like the Fiio E12, where as I am using the Fiio A3 amp to power my 1000's.

Ah I see. I didn't take different equipment into consideration. It's kind of what I got going for myself, except for that dip at the end for the high frequencies. I like those up.
I'm still just starting out with this. Is it generally like the more the bands, the merrier?

Why does the gain have to be reduced?

I use tons of bands to get fine-tuned control over the sound. You can use high pass / low pass filters for broader sweeping.

Because it can distort completely if you don't reduce the gain. Also don't forget that once your EQ settings become extreme enough, you'll need an amp to avoid distortion too.

Correct!

When your gain is up, you are technically amping the signal. And if you are using an amp to power headphones or speakers, you are amping once more. Most things can't handle double amplification. This is why I say, leave the amping to the amp, and put that gain down to -10 to -16. The EQ settings you see in my picture are good for both cans from the SZ line. And yes, generally the more bands you have, the more frequency adjustments you will have. I purposely set out for a 12-band equalizer because I knew it gave me the 32 hertz range, and also gave me the 16khertz range. Generally, equalizers with less then then 10 bands, won't have 32 hertz or 16khertz adjustments.

I have quad maximus original press on cd. it was my headphone test cd at head fi meets 10, 11 years ago. love that cd and invaluable for measuring bassheadability. i got a lot of weird looks from the local audiophiles

Ya I was going to ask you how you liked that isolation in them cans Vapman. A lot of people only think about comfort and sound quality, but something that also helps with sound, is not hearing the family squables outside the door while your trying to listen to your music.

"MOM, suzy stole my doll!" "No I didn't!" "Yes she did!" "Oh shutup!" :D

Thank god for the isolation ha? LOL

I ordered the Schiit Stack with the Modi 2 Uber / Vali 2 and it just wasn't enough for the SZ2k's, so I bought an iFi Micro iDSD and sweet baby Jesus on Turbo with X bass on I think I dislodged some teeth. The iFi is pure insanity with the JVC.
