The AKG K712 Pro Support and Impressions Thread

Would it be wiser to buy the E09K as an addition to my E07K (combo idea) or to sell my E07K and buy a E17K?

I must say that the E17K is a very very attractive unit, I must say.

I prefer the latter just by the pure fact that I can sell my E07K and not have to spend as much money to buy an upgrade.

In regards to the HD598, the creme colour scheme has always been a turn off. it's rather a ugly looking headphone imo but that's coming from a person who does care about the looks and not just the sq.

When pairing with headphones such as K712, you will be better off with E07K + E09K than E17K.

Hmmm I find the Hd598 to be classic awesome looking xD they look better when seen personally than pictures on the net

are there any other good options?

Like the objective 2 by JDS Labs or the Audioengine D1?

I've heard good things from both of them. I bought the E07K because I thought that I would use it portably as well as desktop use but I found myself only using it on the desk. So I'm option to options that are a let alone dac (non-portable)

The K712 + O2 may sound too lean. O2 is a good amp but jot a good synergy for K712. Not sure about the Audioengine thought.

oh okay, fair enough.

I know that lachlanlikesathing owns the Objective 2 and the K712 so I'll definitely ask him :3

if there's any that comes to mind let me know. Maybe getting the Fiio E09 is the best option. It saves the hassle of selling my E07K at least.

I was thinking of Schiit Audio but yeah... the shipping cost might be a pain for you since you are from Australia [?]

Also worth mentioning, the E12 if you need portability but soundstage suffers in comparison to the E09K.

oh? what Schiit Audio product were you referring too? I can check it out. that is correct. I live in Australia.

The Audioengine D1 is A$169 which isn't too far off the E07K. so If I can sell the E07K for $100 or more it's very possible to upgrade.  Hifiguy528 did a review on it on youtube and mentioned that they are very good  for the AKG range of headphones. So it looks promising.

Nah, if it's anything like when I bought the E07K I won't be using them portably :)

anything under A$200 I'd definitely consider :)

Schiit Modi & Magni. I would suggest you to look around th Head-Fi's FS forum for used Modi & Magni since there is the newer edition Modi & Magni released. Should be some up for sale :)

The problem with the Magni is that it's a bit harsher than the O2. The O2 is a better match for the K712 than the Magni. Not sure about the Magni 2 or Magni 2 uber though. Haven't tried the Audioengine but I heard it pairs pretty well with AKGs in terms of synergy.

Ohh gosh that would require a lot of money to burn..ughh

I think I might take my chances. It may not sound absolutely the best with only the FiiO E07K but I'm not an audiofile so I don't think I'll notice a huge difference. I just want something that will be good for all purposes and I've always wanted to try an open headphone.

Would it be better sounding than my Yamaha MT-220's? would it be worth the upgrade?

and the K712's seem to fit that criteria pretty darn well.

Just try the K712 on your FiiO it would not soud bad , it will even manage to sound pretty good , after if you feel that their is some room for improvement then think in buying some upgrade amp etc .
For the pairing thing , it's matter of taste some will say that one amp is a great match others another pairing etc , their is no real universal recommendations .
For exemple : OTL amps from an electrical stand point are not that great pairing with K712  , but still can sound good to a lot of people .
Don't know the yamaha's .

AKG K700's series are more demanding on amp part than many other cans , but i think that people tend to exagerate the needs on amplification for them to sound at least decently .

Thanks brother! I think that seems like the best option atm :)

I'm very silly. I was looking at the objective 2 headphone amplifier alone which is US$129. the 02+ DAC COMBO is US$279.

I personally don't know the difference is but Lachlanlikesathing (from youtube and a former member off head-fi) owns the 02+DAC COMBO. so that at least is out of the question.

The Audioengine D1 shouldn't be out of the question, I quite like the price.

The schiit Magni 2 is $199 in Australia. Would I need the Schiit Modi for it to work. If so, that's a bi of an investment that I'm not happy to pull the trigger on.

Back to the headphones, would the K712's be the best option for my needs? (scroll up to read my preferences) I would really like the Phillips Fidelio X2's but here in Australia I can only buy them off amazon for US$299. however after postage and currency conversion It would cost closer to AU$380+400 to buy it, is it worth it over the K712?

Are the X2's fully open or semi-open? or are they as open as each other?

if The X2's were to ever sell in Australia they would probably be priced at $399 or even as high as A$449 anyways. That's Australia for you.

Not sure how X2 sound but judging by X1, the K712 is better. However thought, they are apple and orange. If you are more after bass, look into the Philips.

As for Magni vs O2 for K712, I can't compare it since I can't have them side by side nor have I tried the Magni but thought they may be a good match [thus no impression from me on that paring].
sorry

According to the reviews I have read thus far, the X1 is not tantamount to the X2 by a wide margin.

Thank you pointing that out.

Atm I'm leaning towards the AKG K712PRO's if I can get them for $299  however it will be from overseas (I don't mind the wait). Since I live in Australia the X2's are going to cost me AU$380-400 off amazon since there is no where in Australia I can get them unless I want to pay a ridiculous price. You US guys/girls have no idea how lucky you've got it with Amazon.
