The Neon Green is so slick. Its nice to see makers trying other things then the typical colors we always see. I hope they keep in in rotation in whats probably going to be a Q712 3 months after the k712 release :)

Thanks,

Perhaps they're preparing to make a red, orange, and green themed K711; Oh, thank heaven!  I'm sorry, I couldn't resist the opportunity

Actually they do tune their different models. They use different materials in housings and pads anong other things. Compare that to MrSpeakers who charge more than 200 dollars for modifying Fostex headphones.

He does much of the same thing, tunes the Fostex with pads and damping (for a much larger effect than the relative differences between Senn's different 6xx models or AKG's 7xx different models)...

He does measure them and go about it systematically you know. T50RP cost $100+, there's easily $80 worth of materials in the mods and included accessories, plus time invested... So he's making maybe a bit over a 33% profit (of the total cost, way way less once you factor in that he paid for the T50RP and materials), easily wayyy less than any mid-fi can earns it's manufacturer.

AKG would charge you $200-300 extra straight up for $50 worth of pads and whatever research went into them, over the cost of a $250 headphone that was already earning them a profit. Not saying either's better or worse, both practices and price points are supported by a slow moving mid-fi market. Hell Senn charges $100 more for the 650 and most people seem to agree that the difference between it and the 600 is a matter of personal preference, and both prices were recently hiked back up.

This hobby is 100% luxury, if you don't think something's worth it's price then don't pay it, simple. :)

Agreed. I love both the LCD2 and D7000, bit I think theyre both worth maybe $500 at the most, compared to mid fi cans. You're paying a hefty 'minor improvement' tax after mid fi cans like the 880, Q701, HD650 (back when they were like $350).

This is exactly what I hoped AKG would do; get rid of the "anniversary" moniker and just make a mainstream version at a cheaper price. I honestly loved the Q701 each time I bought a pair, and I was dangerously close to calling it quits with my 3rd pair (with the M-Stage I believe). But I had three small complaints: I wanted slightly smoother treble, slightly more bass presence, and a smooth headband. That's it. If that was the case, I don't know if I ever would have purchased another headphone after that point. Reading up on the Annies, I was excited to hear every single one of my Q701 complaints had been taken care of, but I found the price a bit too steep. Now that we've got this coming out soon, I'm honestly banking on finally settling on a permanent rig. I simply can't wait to hear one for myself. Just got to wait until the launch price settles a bit.

Kat, you still think the Annie at $350 is too steep? Imho, can't put a price tag on something that is comparable to end game quality, especially when it's not exorbitantly priced like flagships are.

Just to be clear, Annies are an endgame headphone for me, but im too impulsive and wanna always try new things.

Had a look at the AKG facebook page.  Quoting AKG's response to a question:

https://www.facebook.com/AKG

AKG:"Alexandre Poulin EeSim Goh Adrian Wijaya Adelino G. Santos Regarding the differences between K612 PRO, K702, K712 PRO (Open Headphones Series). K612 PRO is based on K602 and uses the driver of K602 which is different to K702 and K712 PRO drivers. It's at the lower end of the Open Headphones Series and has no detachable cable like K702 and K712 PRO. K702 vs. K712 PRO: the K712 PRO is based on K702 and features an improved and updated driver similar to K702. Together with the new materials we using in the K712 PRO ear cushions this leads to a better low end performance of the K712 PRO by 3 dB."

Confirmed as 65th Anniversary I guess lol.

Those must be the "Specially hand picked drivers" used on the Anniversary. Lol.

Putting it that way, no, not really. I still apparently have the $500 tag ingrained into my head. With the only headphones I like in that price range being the HD600 and HD650, and if the Annie was indeed what I have in mind for an improvement to the Q701, then by all means, AKG can take my money. While I'm similar to you in which I'm too impulsive to stay with anything for more than a few weeks, deeper inside I'm still just trying to find a headphone that clicks with me, and I mean near perfectly. As mentioned, Q701 was quite close at the time, but tripped up on a few things. That's why I'm seriously hoping the Annie/K712 will turn out as good as I hope... whenever I decide to buy. It will happen. One of these days...

so from a 300-400usd k702, the k712 jumps up to ~800-900usd because of 3db bass boost, cables changed to a proprietary connector, and now it comes with a pouch!

Cable's still mini XLR no? I seriously doubt they'll go for $800+ (where'd you get that impression?) but I'm also doubting they'll debut at $350 or under. They'll probably make it there, eventually, just a matter of when. Morphing the Annie into a non-limited edition was the best thing they could've done tho, plenty of people wished as much way back when the Anniversary edition was still fresh. Whining about colors or model numbers is just HF being HF...

Happens in every hobby/interest tbh... "Eww why did VW rename the Golf to Rabbit?" Then vice versa when they name it back, or... "OMG NVidia is rebranding the 8800 again??? They love to milk noobs!" Happens even to the best marketing geniuses (backwards at that), the iPhone 4S was easily the biggest leap in performance iOS devices ever saw but because it wasn't called the 5 and the shell wasn't redone it just wasn't enough, lol.

It would be amazing if they did a 4 pin mini xlr, but that's just too far off in terms of wishful thinking. I'd expect this to be the same ol' 3 pin mini xlr.
