Anyone over yonder planning on getting ONE?

I'm finding the audio better than ever, not sure what's going on there.

Have you had a firmware update?

V1.29 has improved the audio - as such, and - slightly worryingly for my new amp purchase on the weekend, I think that I prefer the plain One over the Z1000 & Fiio E12...

Hmm...

Not yet but I'm keeping an eye out, i know it's given a raft of needed improvements.

Btw with the new kernel, some dev has got the htc bit working as a button.

Did they change the volume steps at all?

Huxley,

They're still steep, but not as dramatic as was (sometimes as you'll know, one press of volume up, and you'd go from calm / relaxing to shouty...) - I think that the volume limit is slightly reduced on the newer firmware (but, only having the one phone, I cannot say with any authority)...

...That sounds interesting re the HTC "Button", will have to have a look around XDA later to find the .zip / .apk for that!!

Thanks :)

Hmm...

Improved the audio via beats or stock?

The ONE seems to be getting good reviews for it's sound quality but how do you find it holds up for it's normal phone functions like signal, messaging etc? I have been sitting on the fence for this but would like to get away from Samsung, and the HTC One, at least from the reviews, looks very, very attractive.

Can't fault it, as far as phones go it's been pretty bulletproof im certainly more than happy, and any niggles are silly little things.

Plus folks overseas love it, more for the fact it's not bogged down with too much carrier software.

Htc have been going really heavy with promoting it and fair play to them.

As a phone its fantastic. The best piece of kit I've ever had. Will get an S4 at the weekend, but all my friends say the One is still the better option.

Will be interested in your thoughts,

After having an SGSII, Note, SGSIII, and Note II (of which three devices bricked) I am more than scornful of Samsung, but - they may woe me back into the fold if the SGSIV knocks any spots off of the One...

Thanks,

It doesn't in fact reviews say they much prefer the one over the gs4.

Not to mention for some reason the gs4 throttles more than the htc which barely does at all.

Plenty of discussion over on xda, seems htc have really set the bar with this phone, it's going to be a hard act for others to follow.
