i can just feel the tension rising with the coming of the sensas and the ue's. in a few days we're all gonna realize that the e5's ue's and sensas are all perfect in their own speical, expensive way.

i don't know specifics, but some of the same people who worked on the shures worked on the ue5c's. i think the shures are a bit livelier, and the ue's are a bit smoother and laid back. i read it somewhere, but it's not a first hand observation.

Holy Crap!!!

The Head-Fi server gets so slow one day that I can't keep up with the threads and I go on a 1/2 day trip to NYC and I come back to find that Welly got the UE-10s that he supposedly was 6-9 months from buying AND lindrone already has the Sensaphonics. You people are killing me! Damn. I picked up some CD3Ks this week and still am nowhere near your ballpark(s).

Seriously though, congrats on your purchase and I am looking forward to your thoughts and comparisons on the Etys vs. the UE. Maybe I should send you my E5s at some point so you can do a side-by-side with them and the UE.

I just hope that neither one of you is persuasive enough to convince me to make another canalphone move in the near future. I need to save the coin for a SACD with mods and possibly an HR-2 or other, more beefy amp.

Heh.. I say go for the home system first.. what you've already got is more than enough for portable use... I actually went all the around, pretty much maxed out my home system to where I want it to be, before I turned my head back towards the portable end again.

I guess, I wanted my portable experience to match my home experience. The short of it is, there's still things CD3k does that no canalphone will ever approach.. but there's characteristics in the 2X-S that I like much more than the CD3k... so I've got a portable set-up that in some ways, exceed my home set-up.. screwed up eh?

I liked the E5c's sound signature (warmth, particularly) more than CD3k's as well, but there was no doubt in my mind that E5c was inferior in all other regards, from range extension to articulation... It's just I prefer the way E5c sounded, not what it can technically reproduce.

With 2X-S, I don't believe that's really the case anymore. Oh wait.. I'm supposed to convince you to stay with building a home system... lol... Yeah, go build that home system

You are killing me! I am going to get the home source (Sony 555ES SACD or similar) in the next week or so, stick with my XP-7 for the time being, and get to know the plethora of stuff that I have in the collection now before I go any further.

What keeps me interested in all of these canalphone developments is the fact that I fly >160,000 miles a year and my portable rig(s) are my primary listening set-ups. The E5 has really grown on me over the past 3 weeks and I have not used the Etys in the last 10 days. My only drawback from the E5 is the recessed high-end, and I KNOW that you are going to tell me that the 2X-S is the perfect blend of the Etys detail and crisp highs combined with the E5s killer low-end. And then we both know what I am going to do...

Where is that review, anyway? How long was the turn-around from Sensaphonic from when you placed the first call to schedule the audiologist appt.?

Thank you very much for your gracious offer. I can not accept it at this moment as my plate is very full. However, I may take you up on your offer afterwards when I have graduated and am working (hopefully) in my new job. Again, thank you once again for your gracious offer. Just thinking about the angles by which I could write a review and offer the community at large some more palatable information is too tempting in of itself.

NP. Just drop me a PM at some point if you are interested in the lenders. My Etys are going out to toaster22 this week so he can A/B with his E5s. As soon as I get those back I will be able to send out the Shures if you so desire.
