Recently upgraded Mad Dogs to Alpha Pads and as old Dog Pads were just lying around w/o use, just for fun I've tried them on AKG K271S.
Oh boy, speaking of the match made in heaven!
The fit is perfect, the foam circles from Dog Pad are exact diameter of K271S cups. You need to remove smaller OEM foam circles that cover drivers before installing Dog Pads foam.
The comfort went up tremendously, I was using AKG velour pads before and the foam inside was pretty stiff, with Dog Pads phones just float on the head creating perfect seal with contribute to unbelievable for AKG amount of bass, level of Mad Dogs or modded Denons. No exaggeration here, they are literally moving on the head when it hits.
The overall signature is much weightier, with juicy pronounced mids (sorry Denon) and perfect, well extended treble which is never overly bright but very very smooth.
Add to that lighter weight, less bulkier design and better build of AKG, as well as better soundstage positioning and you'll get a very serious competitor to Mad Dogs, in fact they sound much better than Mad Dog with Dog Pads, I can only imagine what Alpha Pads will do to them, but they are not round shape as Dog Pads not sure about fit.
Sony MDR-1R, Momentum, those are not even close, and I really like MDR-1R.
Can't believe I almost sold those a couple days back, phew.
Guess I have new favorite closed phones.
