Well, my unit doesn't seem to work anymore. After less than one day. Can't turn it on or reset it. Charging it will only show a green light, tried charging it for hours but nothing. Now I'll have to use the warranty, great.

I do have HD650 and ATH-A900X. After the beta firmware update, I can see 50-60% quality gain with ATH-A900X
But Somehow I don't like it with HD650. Tried my HD650 with Butterfly V2 and still don't like them. Maybe It is my issue or maybe I need to get a solid AMP and DAC. Is anyone suggest a good AMP and DAC around 250$ (even used is fine) to drive HD650?

I didn't like the sound of the X3 with my Q701's either. Quite liked it with the ATH-A900X
Mids have trouble finding a center soundstage, bass not solid enough, highs rolled off, congested soundstage with the Q701's.
They may be miniscule differences, but differences enough that I chose to never use the X3's with the Q701.
I feel as if the X3 pairs really well with my fun signatured headphones though, not so much with my more flat/detailed headphones.

(I'm going to ignore your DAC/AMP suggestion request because I only have 1 good desktop setup). i.e. The ODAC/O2 combo.

I love the sound of my X3 on my ATH-A900X's as well!

One last thing you could try is reflashing the firmware.

If you still get nothing on screen while doing this, your unit is most definitely dead.

You advise him to try to reflash a player that will not turn on. How will he achieve this? Maybe you could advise him to reload windows on it.

In computer terms you have a BIOS, and on top of that the OS.

In this case it won't boot as it doesn't normally show the BIOS, but only the OS.

I think the OS might be corrupt, so the BIOS might actually be okay.

The only way to make sure of this is when you flash the firmware, as that's the only moment when you see the BIOS (the flash screen)

If this fails as well, it is most likely broken in an unrepairable way.

So "cannot turn it on" means nothing to you.

Doesn't "light up the screen" looks like doesn't turn on.... This will diagnose that circumstance. In fact it is turning on to some extent - green charge light is turning on...

My thoughts exactly.

You may be right, but to be really helpful you should explain to him how to reflash. I'd advise him to see about returning it and maybe buying an iPod.
