Pictures of Your *Budget-Fi* Portable Rig (< $200)

Oops, this is first time I'm posting in this thread. Never thought it will become serious issue bringing rich/poor divide etc. I felt the DX50 is value for money so is Philips bud, I fear if someone is hanging in head-fi they would indefinitely be buying more gears irrespective of our affordability, like someone who will not buy home theater gear for $1000 dollar or a TV will happily spend his money on head-fi gears, so I thought about this and felt this combo fits the thread, sorry to offend the OP and ideas behind.

No offense just trying to keep the "budget" standard in line. And we prefer the term frugal.

That is why the *Budget-Fi* thread was started, for those of us who love and use our JVC HA-S500's, Koss Porta Pro's, Koss KSC75's, Monoprice 8323's, Various ear buds & phone's, the Sansa Dap's of ALL flavors, a Colorfly C3 or two, some Sony's, vintage iPods, but mostly older and refurbished players and the like...

What is good value to you might be way out of budget to me...
Over in this thread where the DX50 belongs...
http://www.head-fi.org/t/633511/pictures-of-your-portable-rig-part-xvi
There are users there with A&K 100's which they probably think are good value for the money over the A&K 120.
It's all relative...

And like our long time advocate julian67 states "It doesn't become a budget player because you found some $10 buds or accessory for the pic."

So an apology is not necessary, just Enjoy our thread and our humble gear that we love and use every day.

We are cool here. Thanks. But it still bugs me that, the boundary which I suppose is $200 is again very relative, and there are people who cannot afford that and there are us at times we cannot afford many things, there were always ups and downs. And the said gears why they are inducted into hall of fame like clip, c3 but not dx50, the Tao principle states everything in life is relative just like something is better because it is compared with something poor, but when you compare the poor with poorest it becomes better, so everything is relative! So my budget is not your budget, your budget is not my budget, to me DX50 + Philips is budget, I have Clip+, I could pair it and post it, but I don't see much value in it, so in the end my budget value is not your budget value and vice versa. So what I'm ultimately saying is: the thread should reflect what one considers budget-fi, for someone Tera is budget-fi, even it is ridiculous to others, why not it be respected? (And I don't think anyone will post TP and says it is there budget-fi) We need to trust people and their sensibilities when the thread is open to what one considers budget-fi and not which pairing they like within $200 bracket!

I was redirected to the PoPR thread repeatedly, lol, I'm sure I know the way there now. Just making my point across on what I originally felt before posting the DX50+philips bud combo, as I did not have any ultierior motive or silly joke moment as someone pointed out.

If any of the regulars here have any suggestions that they would like added to the first post or the title, then please PM me your suggestions. This should alleviate the issues and define our view of Budget-Fi more clearly.

Thanks Guys!

I think this thread's main purpose is for people with nice cheap rigs to be able to post them proudly and not feel bad when they see the previous or next posts, which have pics of way more expensive rigs, just because they can't afford it or have other better things to spend their money on. For me personally a budget rig is something you can break or lose and buy the same the next day without that affecting the rest of your monthly expenses. And I know that for some people a $200 setup might be something they have saved for months to buy.

On the other hand, with all the high-end rigs being posted on the other thread, I think some members might start feeling they can't post their rigs and be proud of them anywhere - the way more expensive rigs on the other thread making their rigs look cheap and sub-par and the people here telling them they are not budget rigs and don't belong here. So I think something like a $350 shouldn't be too insensitive as a price limit in this thread and quoted in the first post. That's like an ipod, x3 or dx50 and a decent bang-for-buck iem - I don't think that's too outrageously expensive to be included in here as a budget rig.

Well put kova4a!
That first statement is exactly why I started this thread in the first place.

The only problem I had with the DX50 is it would probably cost me here in Canada $350 to get landed after duty, taxes and shipping etc... Pair that with a pair of S500's which are a Budget-Fi leader in my opinion and the rig just went over $400... Which I feel is too high for this thread.

Possibly we need a Mid-Fi Portable Pictures thread with stuff starting at $300 to $XXX... If someone wants to take that ball and run then feel free.

I just got extremely tired of the all the $3K+ stuff in that other thread which really belongs in Summit-Fi, someone would post a nice iPod classic and some Amperior's which would promptly get stomped on by another 12 pictures of the A&K, silly wires, an amp and LCD's. The Classic and Senn's don't even get a passing glance or comment after all the "Looky What I Got" pictures...

We even have some here in this thread who mold their own custom IEM's out of Monoprice drivers, and how well does anyone think that would fly in the other thread next to the JH16's and HEIR's?

The home brew CIEM's are more than welcome in this thread and would never be mocked.
Sorry for the little rant.

+1 for mid-fi rigs thread. The other thread basically turned into focus on rigs starting at at least $1k. It's awkward as bang-for-the-buck and popular IEMs like VSonic GR07 itself is close to $200 and will get booted out of this thread but doesn't even get much of a mention in the other thread. Mid-Fi/Bang-for-the-buck rigs thread would suffice nicely

Well, honestly I think the limit should be around $250-300. For instance something like a C3+E11+S500 when you take into account shipping and possible taxes will go over 200 bucks and yet still is a great budget rig. Also I don't think some products (like x3 or dx50) should be dismissed just because in some countries with the shipping and the taxes they'll get like 100 bucks more expensive coz the one posting such an item might have not paid that additional price (and no, I'm not in such position - dx50's coming to around 350 bucks for me too).
Also, if someone got something on a sale at a great price or bought something used at a great price - I don't think he should be feeling bad posting this as part of his budget rig just because other people might not have the opportunity to get such a bargain.

Anyway, here's a budget rig - C3 + meelec a161p

That is a good point and why I asked the group for input!

So I'll see your C3 with a161p's and raise you a C3 with DUNU DN-23's on a box of Cohiba's (Empty of the Cohiba's just a single Don Tomas Grande left in the box.)
