Hey all,

Largely on the advice of this forum I snagged some CD780's and they are incredibly comfortable... until they start to hurt after 10 mins, which stinks since I love the sound. I guess I just have a fat head, but the pressure on the back/bottom part of my ears starts to get to me after a while. I've tried streching them out for days to no avail.

There are two springy bands that generate the pressure, which arc over a lower band that actually rests on your head. I'm thinking about just clipping through one of them, or hopefully removing it more elegantly. Has anyone opened these phones? I don't have a manual and there's no discernable openings and I don't want to force the things. Will I regret this? Thanks.

It took about a month for mine to become truly comfortable. I think it was a matter of the fabric and foam finally conforming to my ears.

As far as cutting anything, remember that one of those bands must be carrying the electrical connection from one side of the HP to the other.

Mine are actually less comfortable now that the Sony Top Secret Foam Material has compressed a bit. That said they're still much more comfy than most cans.

Yeah - wouldn't be good to cut the hoop with the power cord... I've also found that as the foam is compressed they get less comfortable. Apparently there's a way to get the fabric coverings off, which would ostensibly lead to a way to get into the phones - does anyone know how? Seems like there were/are a lot of 780 people here.

You may want to try unscrewing it and seeing if there are "adjust" screws like the Aiwa Ak100, or strings like in the K401/K501.

Chances are very high that the crossover wires go through the plastic crossover tubes.

Chances are very good that you can unscrew the lower headband and replace it with cloth like the Beyers.

But is that the problem? You say that the back of your ears hurt - how about some pictures of your headphone? And a close photo of where the lower headband touches the underside of the driver housing.
