So what's the story with bass boosting the WS99? Can they catch up Q40? ^^ For me the bass quantity of Q40 is perfect. :)

No, they can't match the Q40.  Tried the WS99 over the weekend.................traded them away.   The Q40 modded (Shure or HiFiMan pads and a V-Moda audio only cable) is still in my top 4 with three pretty good phones (Denon D2K, Denon D600, Ultrasone Pro900).  Not bad for a $100 headphone.

Im pretty sure the ws99 have much better and punchier bass than the Q40's , the ws99 do not distort whatsoever at max volume with 24db bass boost and getting a boost by the fiio e12 its an immense headphone

We all hear differently but my experience is different than your's.  I'm driving my phones with a vintage Kenwood integrated amp (read - power to burn) and the Q40's give a nice little ear massage.  The WS99's were no slouch but I A/B'd them all weekend and promptly traded them.  Maybe it's because I currently have HiFiMan leather pads on them with a rope spacer under the pad but they outperformed the WS99 "TO ME".

I asked about this in a new thread, but maybe more luck here. I am absolutely in love with my ws99s. I am looking for similar sound in iem form (had the cks77 and it was great). Im curious about diferences in the
77x from the original 77
The cks 99 (similar to ws 99 as the number.99 is in both)
Is the 1000 top of line, and better than the 99, @whats major differences

I've never heard the 77's or cks99's, but I was going to suggest that yes, the cks1000's have a similar sound, especially when it comes to the awesome bass. But the 1k's treble is brighter and more detailed, so in that respect they are a bit different. They sound amazing though, and have an incredible soundstage (depth, width, imaging etc). To me the cks1000's are kind of a hybrid between the ws99's and the open backed ad900x.

I see though that you have the fxz200's. What are you looking for that is different from the way the fxz200's sound?

Love the bass on jvc, but feel they are possibly missing some details, mids just arent seem to be offsomehow. Maybe i like the bass leaning towards the sub bass than mid bass. When i put the ws99 in there is just an energy to them i feel the jvc is missing. )and i dont mea. To put down the jvc, i like them alot, but its just something about the AT sound

Yhe sm64s are the absolute best i heard, but i sold them as i do most my listening while lifting weights and just dont need a $450 iems in gym. Looking to get close to that sound for under $200.

Cks 99 or cks 1000, is my choices. Love bass, but not at expense of other parts of music. Doesnt have to be "technicallybetter, looking for fun and energetic, which is why the ws99 is my favorite

Have you done the prerequisite 500 hours (or is it more?) of burn in with them? Sfwalcer will tell ya!

Anyway, the 1k's bass as mentioned is like the ws99's in that it is full, textured and extended with nice sub-bass that doesn't bleed into the mids or have much (if any) mid bass hump. Which means that the mids sound very nice and detailed. So, you should just get the cks1000's for $135+$20 shipping and let us know what you think!

If you all haven't had the chance, give the WS99s a spin with Daft Punk's new album. It's almost as though the album was crafted specifically with these headphones in mind.

The instrumentation, the separation, the clarity, the BASS. Just....wow.

One of the best engineered mainstream albums in over a decade.

I was leani.g towards the 1000, but just before ordering, i seen cks 99 and even the 77x. Ill prolly end up doin it the " "headfi way".......buy both and trade/sell the othrr lol....thanks for reply

I was reading that the 77 was great, but if I remember right, it had older technology than the 99 and 1000, and was not as balanced and clear in the mids and highs.  I ordered the CKS99 and it's on the way.

Haven't listened to them (well, I probably have and just don't know it). But, the reviews for that album are very good, and it looks like they are talented individuals, so I'll be picking up the CD this weekend. Thanks!

I just received my WS99 today! Now I'm currently in the market for a headphone amp. I just picked up the ELE DAC, and I'm considering getting the FiiO E12. From what I've heard here, it sounds like this will make a good pair with the WS99.

The consensus here is that the E12 is ok but a little dark sounding with WS99, but the C&C BK is brighter and a better match.  Check amazon and ebay...and there is a good thread on it.

Idk about the BK, but the BH is quite a lovely match for the WS99. Really opens up the sound and is an awesome super portable amp with crazy battery life. I have to say that the E12 isn't so bad, either, though, if you're going for a really bass heavy sound. Lately I've been listening to almost exclusively trance and progressive and the WS99 with the E12 bass boost is pretty heavenly. The BH/BK would lend itself to a more well rounded listening experience, though.
